Principal Report
Dear Families and Students,
Last Tuesday the prep team and supporting teachers hosted our Prep Information Night for 2022. The night was well attended and we are looking forward to supporting the next group of students who will be starting their Rolling Hills journey. I would like to share a thank you to the teachers, Mrs Creed, Mrs Cripps, Miss Stait and Miss Peirce for their time and efforts. They were supported by Mrs Granger and Mrs Murcott on the night. Mr Taylor created an amazing prep video that we hope to share once have the permissions in place. These nights also do not happen without the support of many people in the background, thank you to those people.
The biggest advertisement for new enrolments is the overall happiness of our students and our families. Word of mouth works better than any billboard. Thank you to you all for every time you say good things about our school and staff out there in the community.
If you do have a younger sibling and plan to enrol please complete an application form before the end of June.
NAPLAN Week
Next week is NAPLAN. Students in grade 3 and 5 will participate. I want to formally wish them well. Our lead up has been about helping them, rather than prepping them for a test. We will also be offering a past paper to grade 4 and 6 students as we think it is important for them to have the experience of NAPLAN that they have either missed or not experienced in a long time.
While I support the assessment of students and the many valuable insights it gives us about where they are with their progression through school, I also want to reassure the community this is not the be-all and end all for us.
We appreciate all of the other things beyond literacy and numeracy that your little people can do. The ability to be a good friend, artist, sportsperson, musician, comedians and a million other amazing qualities are equally as important as what they can show in 40 minutes next week. If you have any questions or anxieties from your child, please reassure them it is an experience, not the outcome that counts at RHPS!
ACHIEVEMENT
Congratulations to all the students who participated in Cross Country and the AFL girls gala. Thank you to Ms Minton and Mrs Layton for supporting the girls. They did really well and competed fairly.
This week we have the AFL in school running clinics with the students. I joined 1KH this today and enjoyed a cold start to a Monday morning with them.
Junior School Council
The JSC has met several times this term. The challenge has been finding a day that doesn't clash with the many other events at lunchtimes. I am sorry for the clash with DigiMaker. The next meet will be a Thursday. The students have identified a charity they wish to support and will host a pink day in Term 2. They have also shared that they wish to work with Wendy in the canteen regarding canteen choices. They are also going to be surveying every student to find out what most students want to see happen with our play equipment.
See the other page for examples of equipment.
Parents and Friends
I would like to share a thank you to all of the parents who supported the Mother's Day Stall yesterday. It was a great turn out and a big success. The efforts from the committee and those helping are greatly appreciated.
The School Disco is next, Totally 80's. We are all looking forward to some of the costumes you might be able to dig out for your child...and you!
I have made a few changes this year to supervision. We would like people to attend and reconnect with each other. Teachers have been asked to volunteer and will be in attendance to mix with you and your children. The library will have the bookstall up and running and we will have tea/coffee for adults. There will be no disco music in the library. The changes will allow teachers to enjoy the experience and take the responsibility for all children away from a few people. I am happy for another family to take your children to the disco if you are unable to attend. We hope you make it and you have fun reconnecting with other families.
