Fashion Revolution Week 2021

Fashion Revolution week runs from 19-23 April to raise awareness of the anniversary of the collapse of the Rana Plaza building in Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2013. This was the fourth largest industrial disaster in history killing 1,134 garment workers and injuring over 2,500.

Fashion Revolution week is about raising awareness about the issues in the fashion industry. Pollution, textile waste and worker’s rights are issues that still exist. As a collective we can make a difference.

In 2021 we are organising the following lunchtime activities:

Monday- Wednesday: Clothing Swap- Bring in up to 2 items of clean good quality clothing that you will exchange for tokens. On Friday, you can exchange the tokens for another piece/ pieces of clothing that you would like to take home! 400 open area

Tuesday: Round table talk with guest speakers: Luke Mitchell (Co-founder & CEO) Yuki Threads, Josie Jones SCR group clothing recycling program & Rhianna Knight Team Timbuktu clothing brand. Details to sign up to this Zoom meeting are to come.

Wednesday: Competition- Make a paper doll- fashion design using recycling

What else can we as a community do?

Our world needs as many people doing their part imperfectly rather than a few people doing it perfectly.

What can we do at home?

  • When we go shopping we can support brands which pay their workers a living wage
  • Only buy clothing/ footwear when you actually need it
  • We can wear our clothes for longer
  • Wash outer layers less often in cold water, and air dry
  • Repair our clothing to keep clothing being worn for longer and out of landfill
  • Wear natural fibres
  • Become informed about #whomademyclothes #whatsinmyclothes
