Middle School News

Year 7 to 9

Middle School Term 1 2021

Wow what a term we have had. 2021 has definitely been a mixed bag, we are glad to have made it through, reasonably unscathed. An early snap lockdown threatened to derail a great start to the year, however, as resilient as ever the students, staff, parents and community of East Doncaster continued to thrive during Term 1 2021.

This year students have not only participated in the learning in their classrooms, but also enjoyed a large range of College wide activities such as:

  • Year 7 Camp
  • Interschool Sports
  • Swimming Sports and Cross Country
  • Harmony Week
  • Clubs/Activities
  • Leadership
  • Values Assemblies

During each of these activities as well as inside the classroom the majority of students have demonstrated excellent behaviour, participation and engagement. All those who have represented the College have done so with respect and integrity, and we should be very proud of everyone from Middle School who has been involved in any of these events/activities.

Values Assemblies were held this week. Students were updated on House points and Interschool Sports teams amongst other things but the main focus was to celebrate students who have displayed college values throughout the term. Attached is a list of these students. Students in Year 7 and 9 were presented their awards by College Principal John Roberts and due to a clash with the Year 8 Assembly the Year 8 Coordinator presented to those students.

I would also like to thank the following students:

  • Vrinda Bhardwaj, Abhishek Banerjee and Haim Kaur for MC’ing the Year 9 Event
  • Shaun Tengra, Divya Dang, Amirah Mohammed Romi and Nishtha Bakshi for MC’ing the Year 8 Event
  • Victoria Chiorsac of Year 9 for her performance of ‘Allegro’ on the double bass
  • Lauren Corner and Leah de Villiers for their Mamma Mia Year 8 Flute group performance and Guari Ahlawat, Farah Aref, Lynn Hoon, Chloe Lim  and Damien Lin for playing ‘Fiddler’s Fancy’ as members of the Year 8 Viola group
  • Jaqueline Sabatini for her Class Captain review of term 1

Also, thank you to Mr Carl Williams for organising those musical performances for us.

Now the break is upon us. A time to catch our collective breath and spend time with family and friends. This is a luxury we were not afforded this time last year. Be grateful for the opportunities we have, although still limited and enjoy yourselves. Stay safe, see you all next term.

Homework Club

For any student who wants to bring work to the Middle School open area, Wednesday 3.30pm – 4.30pm to the Study Session will be supervised by a teacher, students can ask questions if unsure about the work they are completing at the time. No new content is delivered during this session.

College Charges 2021

East Doncaster Secondary College Council would like to thank you for your support of the College as we endeavour to provide the best possible education for your child.

In order to provide quality programs and a comfortable and efficient learning environment for our students, the College relies on strong support from the College community. The College Charges are designed to supplement the Government’s allocation to schools to provide materials and services. These charges enable us to enrich and extend the learning experiences of our students in each subject. Please find attached the explanatory Parent Payments Parent Letter and Parent Payment Policy. 2021 College Charges are now available for parents to pay on Compass.

Please note that there is no additional charge incurred if paying online via Compass.

For further information regarding our Parent Payments Policy, please refer to the attached documents.

1 to 1 Digital Learning Program 2021

In 2021 we will continue with our whole school 1 to 1 Digital Learning Program for all students.

Our Year 7 and 10 students will be required to purchase a laptop, Year 8, 9, 11 and 12 students will continue with their laptop from 2020.  The purchase of these devices is crucial to the learning program as students will access eBooks rather than an extensive number of expensive textbooks.

Details of the 1 to 1 Digital Learning Program for all students and important information regarding suitable devices are detailed in the attached policy.

Student Compass ID/Library/PTV  Cards

Please remind all students that they must carry their Student Compass ID/Library/PTV  Cards with them at all times.

ALL students must sign in/out with their card at the General Office when they are arriving late or leaving early for any reason. A reminder that Year 12 students are required to sign in/out at The John Landy Centre Compass Kiosk.

The cards are also used for any student photocopying that is done at school. The EDSC Student Compass ID/Library/PTV  is also the student PTV (Public Transport Victoria) cards. They are required to carry this card as student identification while travelling on public transport.

If a student loses their card, parents/guardians are able to re-order a replacement card via the Compass parent portal.
