Primary School News
Primary School
Hello to all families
I am thrilled to announce that NAPLAN was successfully completed this week. NAPLAN itself forms only a small part of the assessment schedule in the Primary School. Our focus is to provide students with a range of assessments throughout the school year. These assessments help teachers with their planning and in particular the planning for each individual student.
Our year 3 and 5 students were supported through the NAPLAN process. The tests were administered by myself and Sormeh (Learning Specialist in the Primary School)
Year 3 and 5 teachers were on hand to support their students. I was very impressed with the level of understanding and independence displayed by our students. It is a great experience to take part in and sit a test of this style. It will hold the students in good stead for assessments at a Secondary School level.
Thank you to all the staff who have worked tirelessly on the administration aspects of the NAPLAN test.
Winter Solstice will be observed on June 21st. The lantern festival will be part of the event. I will send more detailed information out before this date. Please add this date to your calendar.
Next week marks the midpoint of Term 2. Keep up the good work everyone!

Primary School Production - Rejoice - Thursday, 22 July
Dear Families,
The Primary School students were invited to participate in a presentation by artists Daniel Calvo and Angela Hernandez form Mosster Studio.

Students had the opportunity to meet the artists, listen and ask questions about our upcoming School Production 'REJOICE' and discover the magic of how an animation is made.
Artist workshop School Production - Mini White Night
Two students from each class from the Primary School gathered in the Art studio as ambassadors for their class. Students worked with artist Daniel Calvo and Angela Hernandez form Mosster Studio. Students talked about what it feels like to be alone and what it feels like to be surrounded by other people. Then they did a drawing of their feelings. Students also had the opportunity to discover how drawings are transformed onto a large building to create a Mini White Night.

The Melbourne Festival Rising
A variety of arts organizations, community groups and Year 5/6 students at Collingwood College have been creating lanterns to form a large scale collaborative public art piece.
Year 5/6 students participated in a talk and workshop with Artist Gay Chatfield. The students worked in groups and created lanterns as a contribution towards a collaborative making of an over 200-metre-long, glowing eel skeleton.
Alice Glenn has been working backstage organizing this wonderful event to make it all happen.
Janni Cox has been collecting all the lanterns from the different organizations, keeping them safe at a warehouse before they are all assembled together for the public to enjoy.
The display will be for ten days:
Where: Birrarung (Yarra River) City
Dates for the festival: 26May – 6th June
Collingwood College would like to acknowledge and thank The Melbourne Festival Rising for giving our students the opportunity (we are the only Primary School participating) to participate in this wonderful event.
