House Cross Country

Last Friday we held our Middle and Senior School Cross Country event.  After the best day ever weather-wise, congratulations to Campaspe House for winning the event.  However, only one point behind was Ovens, then came Yarra House and Kiewa House.  Well done to all the students for their magnificent effort in their performances.  I do know there were a few students who did hurt themselves a little during the run, but hobbled their way across the finishing line to make sure they could get a point for their house.  What a great effort by all!

A very big thank you to all the parents and grandparents who volunteered to come along and supervise a corner or area, to make the course safe for our students.  Thank you again for your support in our sporting events.  Congratulations to the students who came in the top 10 who have qualified to compete in the District Cross Country on Wednesday 26th May. This is taking place at Quambee Reserve this year.  We have a training squad of 14 students in each age group and gender who are training each Tuesday and Thursday at recess for the District Cross Country Event.

Interschool Sport

We start our Interschool Sport competition this week against Good Shepherd – Red Teams and Heathmont East – Blue Teams.  The Red Teams will be walking to Good Shepherd, where they will be playing the different sports across the Luther grounds as well as the Good Shepherd facilities.  Thank you to Luther College for allowing us to use their grounds for our competition.

Heathmont East is bringing all their teams to our grounds so all the Blue Teams will be playing at home.  Our games this term start at 1.15pm and finish at 2.15pm so that the away teams can get back on the buses with enough time to be back by 3.00pm.

A very big thank you to all the parents, grandparents, aunties and volunteers, who have offered to take our students in the teams that the staff could not supervise.  We have 18 teams across 2 streams with only 9 staff.  The other 9 teams certainly need supervision otherwise they can’t participate.  Thank you again to these wonderful members of our school community who have saved the day and teams and are going to spend 6 weeks getting to know our great children at CHPS.  Good luck to all the teams playing on Friday, and with the great weather coming up I am sure everyone will have a lot of fun.

Team Vic Trials

Good luck Cooper J (SRT) for your Team Vic Basketball trials today!

Science at Croydon Hills

Here are some fantastic pictures of our Croydon Hills scientists working on experiments in the classroom last term.  Our Middle students have been studying magnetism and forces and our Prep students have been learning about the characteristics of living things. Our students are very excited to be meeting the new 'Creatures' that will be joining us in the Science Room in the next few weeks!  Here's some clues to what is coming. One is scaly, one has a beard and one is very sticky!  What could they be?

Library News

Welcome back to Term 2.  I know I am a couple of weeks late with my welcome back, but I have just returned from a wonderful holiday around Victoria.  I hope you managed to read a lot of exiting books (there are so many to choose from!) during the holidays.

Term 2 is an exciting time in the library as we are planning to have our Book Fair later in the Term.  (We have our fingers crossed that things will work out for us this year!)  Watch the newsletter and Compass for exact dates and times as we get closer to the start date which is the May 24th.

Please ensure that your children are using their library bags and returning their books on time.  Overdues remain a problem and can take up an enormous amount of time which should be spent getting new and exciting books onto the library shelves.  Please help your children to become responsible for remembering where their library books are and the day they have Library, so that they know when to bring their books back to school.

Respectful Relationships - Parent Information Nights

Respect, Consent, Wellbeing, Mental Health - they're in the news and it's vital that we understand them if we are to help our children develop into responsible and caring adults. At CHPS, we have integrated the Respectful Relationships program into all areas of the curriculum and we know that parent support and involvement is the key to success.

We are very excited to announce we will be running two Respectful Relationships Parent information sessions. These sessions will outline what the program is, the topics we look at and give parents the opportunity to participate in some of the activities. These will be held on:

  • Year 3-6 parents- Wednesday 12 May at 7pm
  • Year P-2 parents- Wednesday 2 June at 7pm

Childminding will be available on both nights. Please email carol.wyatt@education.vic.gov.au to indicate your attendance and book a childcare place if necessary.
