VYLC From Beijing
Mr Craig Price, the students and I have been really busy on the Victoria young leaders Program (VYLC). The students are taking on everything with enthusiasm. Some are even up at 6.00 am for a run with some of the teachers! Then we have breakfast and walk to Beijing Foreign Languages University for their 3 hour language classes. These are really intensive study programs, but all students are rising to the challenge.
In the afternoons we are doing a range of things: meeting university students, visiting tourist sites, Taichi classes and lectures on Chinese culture. And it's only day 3! Last night we caught the subway back to our hotel, and Tully and Rowan invented a game where you had to play a 'flapping bird' type iPhone game standing on one foot while the train was moving.
Next stop Nanjing!

Homestays needed (Feb 2016)
Northcote HS has agreed to assist the Department of Education (DET) in hosting 10 Chinese Scholarship student winners for a 3 week study program in February.
We need 10 host families. The host families are paid $290 per week for the three week stay to cover expenses (as this a DET initiative, not a sister school arrangement where reciprocal arrangements apply)
Things you need to know
1. These students have been given Victorian Government Scholarships to come to Victoria to attend school for three weeks in February, 2015
2. We are seeking families to volunteer to host our visitors for three weeks (10th February – 28th February 2016, approximate dates). A Working With Children check is required for all hosting adults.
3. This is an excellent opportunity for our students to learn more about Chinese culture and for students studying Chinese to practise their skills with a native speaker.
3. The students will be in Year 10, and will have a study program developed for them by NHS.
4. If you are interested in being a host or would like more information, please contact Mr Murphy 9488 2342 or email murphy.nicholas.n@edumail.vic.gov.au
