Northcote High School had 89 participants in this year’s Australian Mathematics Competition across all year levels. The Competition provides students with the chance to demonstrate their mathematical problem solving ability. Mofan Li of 12I was awarded a Medal for his outstanding performance in the Senior Division. Only 12 Medals were awarded in this division Australia-wide. He has been invited to accept this Prize at the awards ceremony in Perth. Matthew Lyons of 8F also received a Prize in the Junior Division. This places him in the top 0.3% in year 8 Australia-wide. Hayden Nunn of 7L was awarded a High Distinction in the Junior Division and Marlon Bargh of 9F was also awarded a High Distinction in the Intermediate Division. This places both students in the top 2% in their year levels. The school was awarded a further 30 Distinctions (top 15%) and 39 Credits (top 50%).

Informatics Olympiad 2015

Northcote High School had two entries in the 2015 Australian Informatics Olympiad. This competition tests the student’s ability to solve mathematical problems using computer programming. We hope to increase the school’s participation in this competition next year. Issa Chanzi of 9E was awarded a Bronze Certificate for placing in the top 50% of entries.

The Mathematics Faculty congratulates all students on their participation. Information regarding entries for next year’s Mathematics Competitions will be distributed in early 2016.
