Water Polo

Purnell 12's - The Big Orange

The U12 Festival is a participation tournament designed to whet the appetities of young players. The festival is open to all WPNSW affiliated Players/Clubs/Associations who wish to enter teams and is held at the Orange Aquatic Centre. The festival's focus is development in a fun and friendly environment. It is the perfect opportunity to start developing young Coaches and Referees as well as players.

Kinross Wolaroi entered a team of U12's. The Kinross team were mostly very new to water polo (apart from Charlie and Charlotte who have played before) but proved to pick up skills very quickly. The team lost a few players due to sickness and other commitments so there were only a few reserves.

The Team was coached by our incredible gap student Charlize Trieloff. What an amazing job she did coaching and guiding the students.

The learning curve was steep but the outcome of the last game of an 8-8 draw with the Woy Woy Wombats was exceptional. They also commented on how far our team had progressed in their playing skills.

The team consisted of:

  1. Matthew Cooper
  2. Charlotte Williams - Captain
  3. Charlie Hail - Captain
  4. Julia Barnett
  5. Xavier Zinga
  6. Isla Ross
  7. Greta Cunial
  8. Ruby Mudford - sick

Referees - Helen Suthers and Gordon Suthers - both were outstanding. They were mentored by WaterpoloNSW, and they commented on how brilliant they both are.

Table officials:

Kymarni Astill

Joe Denman

Penny Swift

Emily Clunas

Clock: - both these boys were extremely helpful

Reggie Staniforth

Charlie Kimmins

Assistant coaches: who wrote stats, notes and really helped the yr 7's with team talk.

Tom Tink

William Garard.

All of these students were incredibly supportive of their team whilst learning so much about the game and the requirements of the sport of water polo.

It was a successful weekend, and they will all bring so much of this knowledge into their own game and competition on a Thursday night.

Triathlon

Sunday 19 March was the last competitive event for the Triathlon Team for this season. Students competed in the Orange Triathlon Club Championships at Gosling Creek Reserve. The event was highly successful for all students, demonstrating the fitness and skills developed throughout the season. Of particular note:

Sophie Martin 1st Female Orange Triathlon Club Champion (Sprint Distance – Open Age Group)

Jess Thompson 1st Female – Super Sprint Open Age Group

Zoe Wood 3rd Female – Super Sprint Open Age Group

Ashton Montagliani 3rd Male – Super Sprint Open Age Group

The Triathlon Team will finish their time together with a barbeque at Gosling Creek on Thursday 23 March and Parkrun volunteering on Saturday 25 March. It has been a wonderful season of camaraderie and personal success enjoyed by everyone.

This season has been made special and possible thanks to the following people: Iain Jones and Kate Anderson for their coaching, Orange Triathlon Club for their support of young athletes, Orange Parkrun for providing such a great training event every week, Justin Stent for his photographs, Allan McDougall for driving us to training and events always being so good humoured, Peter Willis at Velocity for bike repairs and maintenance, Kelly Gleeson for being the patient magician behind the scenes and last but definitely not least the parents who have supported at events.

Signing off until next season. Penny Chandler MIC Triathlon

Cattle Team

Cumnock Show

On the weekend our cattle team headed off to the Cumnock show. A team of 15 students took out the school’s steers to a show for the first time in over twelve months. Whilst a small event, it was excellent to have our students in action again. The School finished as the Champion Exhibitor on the day but more importantly received lovely feedback from the show committee.

The team took out the award for Grand Champion Steer and Ollie Mendham won Reserve Champion Parader.

A big thank you to:

  • Cumnock Show Society
  • Dave Nicholls – President
  • Gemma Gumbleton
  • Tony Starr – Judge
  • Gerry Gotch from Wilandra Transport for taking us and for waiting all day to take us home again
  • and all parents and friends of the cattle team for the continued support – it is greatly appreciated.

Well done to both Ms Harris and Mrs Aldersey who have our students and cattle ready to go. We look forward to the Sydney Royal Easter Show in a few weeks.

Sydney Royal Easter Show Preparation

The mornings are certainly getting fresher as we creep closer and closer to the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

We have been very busy preparing washing, clipping, and teaching our steers to lead.

We have a fantastic team of steers attending the Sydney Royal Easter Show this year - judging day for the School and Purebred Steer Section commences on Thursday 6 April at 8am, with the Young Auctioneers competition to follow at 1pm.

If your freezers are getting a bit empty and need a restock for winter,  please get in touch for an inspection of our steers prior to the show, as they will be available for purchase through the auction.

Please send enquiries to Cattle Team Coordinator,  Laura Harris at laharris@kws.nsw.edu.au

Cricket Report

Well, here we are – the end of yet another exciting cricket season. Season 2022/23 has been full of tremendous performances – both individual and team, that have encapsulated the growing unity within the Kinross Cricket program.

The past fortnight has been one of great success, and one that many of our players and coaches will be able to look back on fondly over the winter. As will be recorded in the results section of this report, it gives me great pleasure to congratulate the Under 14 Sixers and Under 15 Team (playing in the Under 16 competition) for strong semi-final performance over no.1 ranked Orange City sides. These wins were then followed by two great victories by our Under 14 Sixers and Under 15  teams over Cavaliers Cricket Club in both of the Junior Grand Finals over the weekend just passed. This is a testament to our students’ hard work and dedication, and also that of their coaches – well done to all, and what an exciting time ahead it is for you!

Further to our junior successes, our First XI have recently progressed into the Orange District Cricket Association’s 2nd Grade Grand Final this coming Saturday. The match follows a strong performance in the semi-finals against the minor premiership winning Orange CYMS team. The final is set to begin at 1pm, at Riawena oval – your support is most welcome on the day.

It would be remiss of me not to take this opportunity to all of the wonderful help that we have received throughout the season. I would like to recognise the following people/groups for their assistance over the 2022/23 season;

  • Joe Priest and Sophie Fardell: Assistance with event/program planning and wet weather arrangements
  • Kelly Gleeson: Administrative assistance and logistics for matches
  • Coaches: Bruce Kerridge, Dylan Tucker, Finley Morris, Riley Holland, Andrew Litchfield, Matt Byrne, Rick Bowman, Ethan Phillipsen, Walter Prowse
  • KWS Cricket Club: Bruce Johnston (Pres.), Nicola Byrne (Vice Pres.) Elise Heath (Tres.), Edwin and Rochelle O’Brien (Sec.), Matt Byrne (Club Coach) and committee members.
  • Grounds: Wes McDonald (and wider staff) – we have some of the nicest grounds in the region, thank you for all your work preparing grounds and wickets for our students to train and play on throughout the Summer
  • Players: Thank you to you for your hard work and positive attitude; win, loss, draw, sun or rain!

Finally, thank you to all the parents that have given so generously of their time to assist our coaches on match days. Be it supporting, giving throw downs, scoring or umpiring, your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Without the assistance of all those listed above (and many others) the season wouldn’t run nearly as productively or smoothly at it does.

In closing, I am hopeful that I will have the opportunity to see many of you at our End of Season Cricket Brunch on Sunday 26 March. Please see the attached flyer for more details.

Yours in cricket,

Will Waterson

Rugby 7's

Our girls have officially kicked off the 2023 Rugby Season!

After five training sessions focussed on safety in contact, our girls were very eager to play. The four week Friday afternoon competition played between Kinross Wolaroi, Scots All Saints, Mackillop College and Forbes Redbend has now been running for two weeks with another two weeks to go. Our results have been mixed with each team grabbing a couple of wins, however the focus from all schools is growing the participation numbers.

This week our girls will be hosted by Mackillop College at St Stanislaus' College with games kicking off at 4.00pm. The finals will be played at Kinross Wolaroi on the Ex-Students fields on Friday 31 March. All games will be kicking off at 4.00pm so please come and support our girls. We are hoping to "Fill the Hill".

Thanks,

Tennis

Singles Championship Report

Last weekend, we competed in the tennis last round for the season, the Singles Championships. Each school had four students that they nominated to compete in Lithgow. Kaydn McLachlan, Charlie Poole, Max Reidy and Will Steventon represented Kinross Wolaroi . Students were placed in four pools to begin the draw and played 3 matches in their pool. Kaydn and Max both won their pool and were through to the main draw quarter final. Will and Charlie both made it into the consolation quarter final, where they played each other. Will narrowly won this match in a tie-breaker, progressing into the consolation semi-final. Here he played Stannies and unfortunately lost his semi-final.

Max was up against a tough BMSC competitor in his main draw quarter final and unfortunately lost his match. Max should be congratulated on a wonderful last season for ISA Tennis showing excellent sportsmanship and great leadership as the School's ISA captain.

Kaydn made easy work of his quarter final and semi-final progressing to the main draw grand final, where he was up against a strong SASC competitor. Close games were played and Kaydn showed his strong tennis ability however SASC were too strong on the day. Kaydn came away as runner up which is a phenomenal result and he should be congratulated on his consistent effort throughout the season.

We would like to give a big thank you to our coach Darren Gersbach for a wonderful 2022-23 season and all the helpers that make training and the weekends possible. Thank you also to Kathryn Northam for running all the internal tennis matches on the weekends and Alex Champion for helping where possible.
