The Principal's Pen
Our College culture has been the topic of many conversations this term. It's often difficult to find a simple definition for an organisation's culture, but there are lots of things we can describe about it. For example, Cornerstone's culture is encouraging, seeking to build people up. It is positive, fostering an enjoyment in the variety of opportunities that make up each day. Our culture is also supportive, recognising that all of us have strengths that can contribute to our school community, as well as areas that we need help with that can benefit from the strength of others.
A great example of our College culture is how people approach challenges. Our students have been undertaking their NAPLAN tests and I've seen students stepping up to help others with their test logins and staff offering to help fill gaps in supervising tests. We want our students to do their best, but it is done in an environment of positive encouragement and support. The NAPLAN testing is often reported as a stressful time for students and staff, but once again, everyone has managed it calmly and without incident.
Life is not always easy and can sometimes be very messy, but we are all part of this College community, so we all benefit from this culture in different ways. I hope we can all be mindful of the part that we can play in continuing to build our culture.
"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up." Ecc 4:9-10
