Creative and Performing Arts
This year at Windang Public School we have a lot of opportunities for students to shine in the Creative and Performing Arts domain.
Dance Festival
Our Stage 2 and 3 Dance Festival group have been hard at work learning and choreographing their item, 'A Day At The Lake'. Last week students filmed what they have learnt so far and sent this through as an audition to the South Coast Dance Festival Committee. We are happy to announce that Windang Public School will be shining bright from Tuesday 13 June to Friday 16 June 2023 (Term 2 Week 8) at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre (IPAC). Details of tickets will be made available at a later date if you would like to come along to support our dancers.
Southern Stars
Southern Stars is once again happening at Windang Public School in 2023. We have 38 students who have signed up to be a part of this incredible event. Way to go Windang! Rehearsals will begin in Term 2 and we are very excited to see what dance performance we are going to be involved in.
Music
We believe learning music improves a child’s approach to learning...It improves their literacy, numeracy, communication, organisation and problem-solving. It also enhances their personal confidence, gross and fine motor skills, and helps develop cooperation, collaboration and a sense of belonging and wellbeing.
Music with Mark and Mel from the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music is in full swing, with all classes participating in a weekly 30 minute music lesson. K-2 have been working with Mel and engaging in the CHIME music program. 3-6 have been working with Mark who has been introducing students to a variety of instruments, including brass, wind, and string instruments, while consistently returning to our focus of the guitar.
At the beginning of Term 1, the school purchased new music stands and keyboards for students to use. On a Thursday, you can often hear students strumming the guitar or playing the new keyboards during lunch and recess. In Term 2, we aim to get our school band up and running once again.
Choir
Our school choir is up and running for 2023. We have had an incredible number of students join our choir sessions at lunch time. Students from K-6 have the opportunity to join our choir, where we will learn a variety of songs and participate in different performance opportunities across the year. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for our first performance coming up in Term 2.
Visual Art
Students across K-6 have created artworks in recognition of ANZAC Day. These artworks will be displayed around Club Windang for the next few weeks. If you are visiting for the ANZAC Day Ceremony make sure you check out the incredible creations.
