Big Brekky

We hope you all enjoyed last week's Big Breakfast! It was great to see so many families enjoying the sunshine and catching up with each other while enjoying a bite to eat and, barring a few hiccups with the BBQ, we managed to feed the hungry hordes.

PFA

Talking about community events, our Parents and Friends Association  (PFA)  Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held next Tuesday 7th March commencing at 6:30 pm in the staff room.

In short, our PFA is an integral component of our community and supports the school by bringing the community together (School Connectedness) through organising fun activities for the children and families, while at the same time raising funds for the school through various events, raffles and so on.

If you are interested at all in joining or just finding out how it all works, the AGM is a perfect place to start. Hope to see you all there!

Student Leadership

Two weeks ago, students in Year 6 interested in applying for positions of Student Leadership in our newly framed Student Leadership Structure were asked to complete and submit a written application addressing specific criteria. Students who applied for a position had the opportunity to present themselves along with what they have to offer through our interview process by delivering a short presentation to their peers and select staff.

I must commend every single student who took the time to compose their application and present themselves to their peers... it takes courage to 'put yourself out there.'

Choosing our leaders is probably one of the hardest jobs we have each year as each child has a case for selection and disappointment for some is inevitable. Positions are appointed on the skills and attributes candidates can bring to the position at this point in time. We applaud all students who applied and congratulate those who were selected, so let's meet them-

School Leaders:

Nicholas Lim

Hi my name is Nicholas Lim and I am part of the CCK community and inaugural SRC or Student Representative Council. My position is Student Leader in which I was selected just recently. To explain a bit about myself, other people describe me as funny and responsible. I’ve been in this school since Year Prep and I thought I would finally give leadership a shot in my final years. I bet I can make a huge impact in the community and help CCK  be a really positive school.

Giang Khong

Hello everyone,

My name is Giang Khong, and I am honoured to be this year's candidate for School Leader of 2023. My aim as School Leader is to increase understanding of cultural differences, and encourage respect for each other. I believe that we should all treat others how we want to be treated. I'm excited to collaborate with other leaders to make this year fun and enjoyable for us all. Let's make this memorable!

Social Justice Leaders:

Christina Tang

Hello, let me introduce myself as Christina Tang. My aim for 2023 is to fill all hearts with joy and to make everyone feel welcome and at home. It is extremely important for me and others to feel safe and happy at this school, so that’s why I guarantee you I will achieve my goals to the most of my ability throughout the year. If anyone needs help, without a doubt you can always rely on me. I was eager to be chosen as a Social Justice Leader and I will certainly put my absolute best effort (and a little bit more) into everything I do.

Audrey Linke

Hi I am Audrey Linke and I am a Social Justice Leader. This year in 2023 I am so happy to accept this role. I want to make sure that everyone is cheerful and happy when they walk into school every day. I am 11 years old and love school. Even though I am 11, I have very big dreams for the school in the future.

Sports Leaders:

Angeline Pham

My name is Angeline Pham. I feel honored to be one of the Sports Leaders of 2023. My goals this year are to encourage and help younger kids to feel comfortable and have an enjoyable time. I am incredibly excited to work with the Corpus Christi staff once again. I hope to learn more and experience being Sports Captain. I hope anyone who needs help can come to me. I’m looking forward to learning and teaching more to the younger year levels. I know I can master the responsibilities of Sports Leader. I’ll do my very best (and a little bit more) in being Sports Leader of 2023.

Violet Henwood

Hi, I'm Violet Henwood from Year 5/6 and I am a Sports Leader for 2023. I have a passion for sports and I like to support and help others. I am both happy and grateful for this role and I look forward  to leading my school community.

Sickness

It's important that we keep our school as safe as possible when it comes to the spread of communicable diseases. This week we have had a number of cases of gastroenteritis (gastro) reported in our junior community.  The Victorian Department of Health states that 'cases should be excluded from schools or childcare centres until 48 hours after symptoms have stopped.' It's important that we adhere to this.

It's good to note that good old-fashioned handwashing with soap and water is still the best defence against spreading the bug.

Headphones

Can we please ask all families to ensure their child/ren brings a pair of headphones or earphones to school that can be left in their tub to use with their Chromebook or iPad when required. This allows children to listen to audio without disturbing the rest of the class.

OSHClub News

For more information, please ask Ash at OSHClub.

Cross Country

This Friday a number of our children in Years 3-6 will compete in the Footscray District Cross County Carnival to be held at Hansen Reserve. I know they have been practicing and I wish them well and trust they will represent our school with pride.

Big Day Out

In the lead-up to Catholic Education Week we will be celebrating our Big Day Out: Combined Schools Celebration next Thursday 9th March.

We, along with children from St Augustine's and Annunciation Primary Schools, will celebrate  Mass at St Augustine’s Church at 10:30 am followed by a sausage sizzle lunch and activities run by KABOOM SPORTS.

We will have an early snack break prior to departing but it is suggested children bring along some additional healthy snacks to eat when needed.

For lunch children will receive:

  • 1 sausage in bread
  • 1 fruit drink box

If this is not sufficient, or your child doesn't eat sausages, children are to bring additional food items.

Children are to wear their SPORTS uniform (including hat) and are to bring a small backpack containing their water bottle and snacks. Please make sure EVERYTHING is labelled.

We will depart by bus from Corpus Christi at approximately 10:00 am and return around 3:00 pm.

Please make sure you grant permission for your child to participate via the Operoo form which was sent out to families last week.

God bless

Anthony Hyde
