NAPLAN Testing

NAPLAN Tests for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 (consisting of Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language and Numeracy) are scheduled to take place as follows:

  • Primary - Wednesday 15 - Friday 17 March
  • SecondaryWednesday 15 - Tuesday 21 March
  • Catch up tests will take place where possible in the few days following.

Could parents and carers please avoid making appointments that require students to miss school during this time.

At Mount Carmel College we use  a variety of tasks and assessments within our classes to inform our practice and provide feedback for students. NAPLAN results are used primarily for identifying general patterns of students’ learning progress which can provide information for review and improvement of teaching practices.

While students are encouraged to do their best, it is not expected that they will undertake specific study or practice to prepare for these tests. A general practice of the process will be undertaken by students prior to the testing dates. As well as providing some preparation for students this enables us to check that the NAPLAN platform and the College’s connectivity function reliably.

Students should ensure that their devices are fully charged and that they have earphones with them for each test. AirPods are acceptable but must be fully charged. (Year 3 students will have headphones provided but can use their own if desired)

It is a priority for us that the tests are run in a smooth and calm manner in order to avoid stress and we trust that parents and carers will support us in this endeavor. As a school we are not permitted to withdraw individual students from the testing but are required to follow the instructions of parents who have a valid reason to do so.

More detailed information from ACARA regarding NAPLAN as well as specific test times will be sent out via EdSmart.
