Year 5 News

Our Year 5 students have already enjoyed their first excursion for the year, and it sure was a big one! Our day started early, with 5 White and 5 Navy arriving at the school full of energy and excitement for an 8am departure. After a morning tea stop in Dunalley, we pushed on to Port Arthur, where we quickly unloaded and met our first guide. We ventured into the grounds and soaked up a wealth of knowledge regarding the history of the site, and people who inhabited it. After spending some time exploring the various buildings, the ferry took us on a gentle trip over to the Isle of the Dead. Here, a guide showed us through the island, stopping to share various histories of the people buried there.

After making it back to the ‘mainland’, and a break for lunch, we loaded back into the bus and headed out to the Tessellated Pavement. Mrs Himson treated the group to an insightful lesson, complete with map drawings in the sand, about the Indigenous history of this place and the incredible timeline that connects them to the land. After this, we had a very impressive sand sculpture competition, with Miss Magill being granted the esteemed role of judge. Once the winners were crowned, we returned to Port Arthur for dinner, and, eventually, after a bus trip that involved much less snoozing than staff predicted, we made it safely back to school – right on bedtime! A fun, memorable, and enlightening day was had by all.
