Selamat Siang!
Just like that we have made it to the first long weekend of the school year! Have you checked your emails this week? You will have received a link to a questionnaire in preparation for our upcoming Parent Information Evening. We have also sent out information regarding our ‘Community Expo’ incursion!!!
According to FH the best parts of the week were library with Mrs Smaller (because we borrowed our first book!!), PMP (because it is just so fun), Junior Rotations (because we get to meet new friends and teachers) and Reading Eggs (because iPads!). We are looking forward to a fun, fantastic, four-day week next week!
Literacy
Throughout Week 7, students had a little taste of Reading Groups before they officially kick off next week. We were excited to introduce a ‘Big Book’, which acted as our mentor text for the week. Students shared their ideas about the text and were inspired by Penny Punctuation to spot capital letters and full stops, and Vinny Vocabulary as they listened carefully for WOW Words and adjectives. Students also practised logging into Reading Eggs and had a go at following along independently. It’s fair to say that this will be a highlight next week!
Maths
It has been a big week in Foundation Maths for uncovering new key words! We explored the meaning of data and how best to display data as a graph to make it easier to see, count and understand. Students collected data by surveying their peers and practised sorting their data into tables and bar graphs! We asked many yes/no questions such as ‘Do you have a pet?’ to find out the most common answers. Check out the graphs we made throughout the week. We can’t wait to share our graphs and more learning which you will be able to access through the Seesaw App. You might like to download it before our upcoming Parent Information Evening on Wednesday the 22nd of March.
Wellbeing
Students have continued to discuss the Zones of Regulation and strategies that can support them when feeling different emotions. This ensures we are safe and taking care of ourselves. The students have been exploring a range of strategies that we can use at school including breathing strategies, quiet breaks, talking about our worries and of course a Foundation favourite, using a sensory tool. What strategies do you use at home when you are feeling worried, sad, angry or confused? What do you enjoy doing at home together when you are feeling happy?
Guided Inquiry
We are well and truly ready for our Guided Inquiry Incursion next week!! The students have been supported to come up with research questions to ask our Community Members. More information outlining our incursion was sent home via email today.
The concept of community is quite abstract so we would appreciate your support in discussions at home! Home Talk was sent home today to support conversations and research at home about the communities students belong to outside of school.
Enjoy a restful weekend!
