Selamat Siang!

We all loved being together and celebrating our different houses last Thursday night at Twilight Sports. Well done to all of our students for such a great effort in the sprints, long distance and novelty races. How great were our house chants?! It was so special to have our families there to enjoy the night too!

This week was jam-packed with fun and new learning. It was nice to have a bit more of a relaxed week at school after a busy week with our excursion and Twilight Sports last week. Well done to all of our students on such a great week of learning!

In Writing we wrote all about ‘Our Magical World’. We started the week by considering the structure of narrative texts and then had a go at writing our own narratives about the worlds we imagined. Students even had the opportunity to edit their own writing and pick some ‘next steps’. We have been blown away by our students’ creativity and stamina when writing. We can’t wait to share our stories with you on Seesaw!

During Reading sessions, we have been practising predicting about our text. It’s been wonderful to see students using their creativity and imagination to make predictions. We have also been practising using our Reading Toolbox to decode new words we come across when reading. Students should be so proud of themselves for applying these ‘tools’ and reading so well!

During Maths lessons this week we have been exploring shapes. We did a shapes hunt around our school and investigated the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. We considered the shapes we might use to create our buildings for our Guided Inquiry towns and even made some shapes with spaghetti!

During Guided Inquiry we have continued to plan our town, considering where we might place roads, structures, services and houses. Our students have such a great grasp on the services most communities are made up of and why we might put certain services in certain places, following our excursion last week.

This week we have also been thinking about how we interact with others when we play. We discussed who goes first when we are playing a game. We considered how we can make these decisions and what we can do if it doesn’t go ‘my’ way?

Junior Rotations started today and it was wonderful to see our students engaged and excited about different topics. We had watercolour, sports, craft activities, music and a science experiment, just to name a few. All of our students will get the opportunity to complete these activities over the coming weeks. Thank you to all of our parent helpers who are assisting groups during the Friday rotations, the teachers are so grateful!

We are looking forward to another amazing week in the Inquiry Centre!

Student Voice

What was the best thing you did this week?

  • Isaac - "I liked making my town logo in maths"
  • Cindy - "I like to read"
  • Oscar - "Guided Inquiry is so fun, I can't wait to build my town"

Reminders

  • It is really important that you ensure the yellow reading logs are brought back to school each day with a little bit of a reflection about what your child has read. This can be written by you or your child.
  • Students are welcome to bring some money on Fridays for Pleasant Snacks.
  • Please pack lunch and snacks for your child. Some students are finding they are eating all their food in the first break and have nothing left at recess. Even if they have a lunch order.
