Australian Defence Force Visit
Students from years 10, 11, and 12 interested in learning more about the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and all the opportunities available were invited to attend an information session on Wednesday, March 15. Our College was lucky enough to have 2 serving members from the ADF - SGT Matthew Hadfield, a Firefighter from the Airforce, and Warrant Officer Class 2 Anthony Lia a Metalsmith from the Army, speak with the students about enlisting, studying with the ADF, participating in a gap year program or applying for trade directly with the Australian Defence Force.
Students were encouraged to go home and look through the website more thoroughly (www.defencejobs.gov.au) and start the application process as early as possible.
Year 12 Students
The careers team is currently catching up with all year 12 students to check in with their plans for next year. We are updating our College website with information and opportunities all the time, so keep checking www.mmcrccareers.com
Planning to Study?
Those students who are planning to apply for University and TAFE courses are encouraged to start building a file of course information. This file should include things like:
All of this information can be found via our College website
Planning a Gap Year?
Taking a gap year between school and further study or school and full-time employment can be a very rewarding experience. There are a huge number of agencies and volunteer organisations that work with school leavers to provide rich gap year experiences both within Australia and overseas. Again, check out our College website under post-school options for more information
Careers and Course Expos
These expos are a fabulous opportunity to get some inspiration for life after school. There are businesses, Universities, TAFES, Defence Force, Emergency Services, Gap Year Programs and so much more all in one enormous expo. We cannot recommend a visit to one of these highly enough. Find all the details here:
Year 10 Students
Students should all be well underway with their work experience research. If anyone is having trouble with finding a placement or getting your forms organised, please get in touch with one of the careers team. We can help you with ideas, contacts or a plan B. A great place to get an all-around experience is with one of our local Shires. Both South Gippsland Shire Council and Bass Coast Shire Council are happy to host students and offer a range of departments to work within. For more information look at:

Year 11 Students
It is never too early to begin your career planning. If possible, get yourself down to one of the careers expos listed above and start building your careers portfolio. This should be a file of ideas, inspiration, websites, photos, course information, useful contacts, etc. It should be an active file, which you update and edit regularly. The more information you collect now, the more prepared you will be when decision-making time rolls around. Your file can be digital or a visual arts diary. Just make a start!!
