Principals' Update

3-Way Conferences Students, Parents/Carers and Teachers

Thank you to our students, teachers and CNPS Families for attending the 3 Way Conferences this week. A great deal of work went into preparing our students for these conferences, and we are incredibly proud of the way they presented and shared their learning with their parents and carers. It is so important to provide our students with the opportunity to have Voice and Agency in their learning.

NAPLAN

Our Year 3 and Year 5 students completed their final NAPLAN assessment today. Well done to all these students for demonstrating the value of resilience.

Those students who have missed any of the assessments will be provided with the opportunity to participate in catch-up sessions tomorrow and Monday.

No Holiday Program at CNPS over the Easter Holidays

Unfortunately, Big Childcare has advised that they will not be conducting a Holiday Program at our school over these Easter Holidays. School Council is currently conducting and expression of interest tender process for a new Outside School Hours Care provider. Hopefully, we will have a new provider in place early next term with an ongoing holiday program that does not get cancelled. We will continue to keep families informed of the progress of this process.

The Great Lee Street Fete

We are all extremely excited about the Great Lee Street Fete this coming Sunday. As I am sure you are aware, schools are underfunded, and we rely heavily on funds raised by our school community to provide high quality experienced teachers and Education Support Staff and to be able to provide our students with a rich and stimulating curriculum and learning environment.

Thank you to all the parents, carers, family members, friends, students, past students, community members and CNPS staff who have volunteered on the day or assisted with the preparation for the fantastic community event.

Respectful Relationships and Schoolwide Positive Behaviour (RR/SWPB) Planning Day

Today our RR/SWPB Team, Billy, Jesse and Emily, had a planning day to develop an outline of the future work for our school in Respectful Relationships and Schoolwide Positive Behaviour. SWPB Coach joined them, Daniel Ioannides, to assist them with the planning. The following body of work for this team is to establish transparent processes and expectations when addressing Bullying at the school.

These two initiatives have had a significant positive impact on our student wellbeing over the years resulting in our school being recognised as an exemplar school for positive student wellbeing and being acknowledged as a Lead School in both these areas.

Planning Week Next Week

Towards the end of each school term, our teaching teams are provided with a day out of the classroom to commence planning for the following term (or year). Next week is our Planning Week for Term 2. When your child has their allocated planning day, they will participate in their specialist classes with the Specialist Teacher and may possibly have a Casual Relief Teacher (CRT) for one or more sessions throughout the day. Please see the planning days scheduled for next week below:

Monday - Year 1/2 Planning Day

Tuesday - Italian and STEM Planning Day

Wednesday - Foundation Planning Day

Thursday - Year 5/6 Planning

Friday- Year 3/4 Planning Day

Therapy Dog Training

Throughout Term 1, Maddi, Carlye and Chris have been participating in the following online professional learning to become certified Therapy Dog Handlers:

  • Introduction to Multidisciplinary Animal Assisted Interaction (AAI)
  • Canine Assisted Interaction (CAI)

Next week Maddi and her bordoodle, Dougy and Carlye and Chris and their golden retriever, Gus will be completing the 3 day Provisional Handler Certification.

We look forward to welcoming Dougy and Gus as Therapy Dogs at CNPS at the conclusion of this course. We wish them and their handlers all the best for next week.

Dogs at the Fete

We have received a number of queries about whether dogs can attend the Fete this Sunday. The answer is yes, we are a dog friendly school. However, as per normal school days, dogs will not be permitted in the buildings.

Murphy and the therapy dogs-in-training will not be in attendance as the environment will be way too overstimulating for them. Please consider the wellbeing of your own dog as there will be loud noises from the rides and performances, crowds, farm animals and many food smells.

We would also like to take this opportunity to remind dog owners to please clean up after your dog when onsite. Over the past few weeks a number of staff have had to pick up someone else’s dog poo in the school grounds. Dog poo is like a magnet to childrens’ feet and shoes and there is nothing worse than a classroom with smelly shoes!
