CERES Excursion

Earlier in the term the Year 12 Literacy class from Coburg visited CERES Environmental Park to learn about social enterprises, their positive impact on the community and how to get involved in volunteer organisations. Students were given a tour around the park and our guide provided lots of information about the various activities which are run there, including the Bike Shed, community garden, plant nursery and café. Students also learned about the branding that CERES uses and how important signage is for marketing purposes and bringing in new people to the space. The excursion linked in with several tasks for Unit 3 Literacy VCE-VM and Unit 3 Literacy VPC, and provided excellent foundational knowledge for their upcoming community garden project the Year 12 class will be conducting in their Personal Development Skills subject later in the year.

International Women’s Day

In the week of March 8, students across Richmond and Coburg campuses met to discuss the social, economic, cultural, and political issues facing women. Students engaged positively in an open and robust conversation, while decorating a terracotta pot in recognition of a woman they admire. Each student was invited to plant a seed in their pot, representing their commitment to raising women up.

This year, the United Nations’ theme for the day is ‘Cracking the Code: Innovation for a gender-equal future’. Celebrate women's achievement. Raise awareness about discrimination. Take action to drive gender parity. IWD belongs to everyone, everywhere. Collectively we can all #EmbraceEquity.

Canine Comprehension Program (Coburg)

Occurring each Tuesday in Term 1, students at the Coburg campus have worked with Cherice and her therapy dog ‘Jonesy’, to develop emotional literacy skills. Students have been invited to engage ‘Jonesy’ in various activities, including: tricks; commands; walks; and challenges. Throughout the process of getting to know and care for ‘Jonesy’, students have been encouraged to reflect on how they can take care of their own wellbeing.

WILD Program

Lynall Hall Community School has once again partnered with EACH to run the WILD program for students in 2023. This program involves a range of outdoor experiences and challenges for students to participate in across term 1 and 2.

On Tuesday 28th of March students and staff ventured out for their first WILD day at Lysterfield Lake. Students learnt how to stand-up paddleboard and participated in a range of challenges and games on the water including paddleboard basketball and seeing who could run the length of the paddleboards lined up together. We also had some students who walked the park to see the wildlife in the surrounding area.

For the second day of WILD, students and staff spend the day on the Yarra River at Warrandyte. The weather was perfect and the setting idyllic.

End-of-term student performance

On the second-last day of term, students and staff performed for the school community. For several of our newer students, was the first time to perform in front of the LHCS staff and students. Well done to students James, Ruby, Callan, Jack, River, Harley, Oscar, Bee and Kettle. Thank you to Barb, Phil, Dan in your support of the student performers. Also, thank you to those parents/carers were able to attend.
