Taking a CAS initiative into the world

Year 11 IB student Hugo Currie has once again impressed with his creativity, passion and initiative. Earlier this year, Hugo launched the TRAC Python Basics Coding Course. This course is designed to introduce students to the world of coding, with participants completing Hugo’s online training modules to develop their coding skills. An impressive initiative!

Hugo has taken this passion and expertise for Python coding quite a few steps further, applying his knowledge to artificial intelligence. Over the weekend, Hugo was invited to present at a conference hosted by RAINS (Rural Alliance in Nuclear Scintigraphy), with around 240 delegates from Australia, New Zealand, USA and Europe attending the online national science symposium. The theme of this event asked presenters to examine the role of artificial intelligence, machine learning and deep learning. Hugo shared his expertise in Python coding and its use in neural networks, essentially creating artificial intelligence with applications including nuclear medicine. This is most impressive!

RAINS President, Lord Matthew Ayers, was most impressed with Hugo’s presentation, stating in a congratulatory letter, “Your fantastic insights into Python language generally and then its use in developing artificial neural networks and convolutional neural networks provided new capabilities to our delegates that, for some, will inspire new application, new research, and improved outcomes for patients.”

Sincere congratulations to Hugo for courageously sharing his expertise in this academic setting and for developing his passion expertise in such an impressive way. Hugo continues to inspire not only his fellow students and his teachers, but the scientific community as well!
