Dear Members of the Glen Waverley Primary School Community,
Welcome to another exciting edition of our school newsletter where we share what’s occurred throughout our wonderful school!
Last week I was asked to attend the staff room where a group of parents wanted to speak with me. As I entered, the first thing that caught my eye was two large trays of plants that they had donated to our school. Naturally, this is a wonderful gesture and something that will go a long way to improve our school gardens.
On behalf of all of the students, a sincere thank you as your efforts and spirit of generosity are greatly appreciated.
Included are some photographs of the children finding a new home for the plants!
It is wonderful that the warmer weather has finally arrived, however it is also essential that the children bring a named water bottle and hat to school every day please.
As reported in last week’s newsletter, our Chess Team won the Kids Unlimited Victorian Championships recently and last Wednesday the following children:
represented our school in the Chess Victoria Grand Finals against the three other top ranked schools in the State and I am extremely proud to announce that once again, they finished in 1st place. At the conclusion of the event the scores were:
Glen Waverley PS: 19 points
School 2: 15 points
School 3: 13.5 points
School 4: 12.5 points
Naturally, this is an amazing achievement and something that the entire school community is incredibly proud of! From this point, the children will go on to represent Victoria in the National Finals held on the 5th and 6th December. As you would expect, the boys are super excited and happy with the outcome and can’t wait to represent themselves, their family and our school at the national championships. We look forward to sharing what occurs as soon as possible!
Akeesha and her little sisters recently completed something quite special. They cut their hair in order to donate their hair to Variety (the children’s charity). The hair will be made into wigs in order to support children who are battling cancer. On top of this wonderful gesture Akeesha and her little sisters also managed to raise a whopping $500 to assist children in need!
Well done and congratulations Akeesha as this is an amazing gesture and something that you, your family and our entire school community are very, very proud of!
As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, the children are currently writing about their experience of living through a pandemic, which will be used as an assessment piece and also be placed in a time capsule for future generations to read. A plaque will be placed on the time capsule requesting that it be opened in the year 2060, which also coincides with our school’s 100’s birthday.
The Compass post also requested for parents to write a piece, may I encourage you to do so as it would be fabulous to have pieces written by the adult members of our school community. If you prefer to write in your own language, that is also fine. We are requesting that all letters (pieces) are placed in an envelope and returned to school by Monday 23rd November.
After a few postponements, this year’s school photographs were taken Friday 6th November and we look forward to them being delivered in the very near future. A sincere thank you to the families who supported this initiative.
