Italian News

JUNIORS

The students are completing their Unit of Work called "Ecco Pinocchio".

They enjoyed the story, the rhyme about Geppetto, learning Pinocchio's body parts,

playing some games eg. "Su e Giu' "  (Up and Down) and "Si e No" (Yes and No)

and saying some greetings such as 'Ciao' (hello), 'Buongiorno' (good morning),

'Mi chiamo... (my name is...), and  'Come ti chiami...?'  (what's your name....?)

What a great job they've done.

BRAVISSIMI.

MIDDLE and SENIORS

The students have been working hard on their research project about a Famous Italian.

They studied the life story, birthplace or region where they came from,

their great talents, inventions or discoveries,

how they changed or influenced our world, which of our 'Learning Dispositions they exhibited,

and explained why they chose that famous person.

What a big job. BEN FATTO  - Well done everyone.

Years 3/4/5 Transition

This week students in Years 3/4/5 started on their group inquiry project, 'How can we design a game to enhance Sacred Heart Community Spirit?' As a team they researched different games and began to design their own game. This is in preparation for the Whole School Games Day later this term, where the students will be demonstrating and playing their new games with the rest of the school.

It was great to see the students being respectful and creative, listening to each others ideas and coming up with a name for their game, discussing how the game will be played.

Students also identified what it means to be a good leader and discussed the different people they know, who are examples of good leaders.

Students are also continuing to participate and enjoying Bluearth games. Each week students rotate bluearth activities in their groups and continue to improve in that particular game skill.

Year 3/4 Science

This week, science was about Static Electricity. Some of the things students learnt were:

  • static electricity can 'zap' you,
  • positive and negative charges are attracted to each other,
  • if you rub a balloon on carpet or wool, and then on hair, it causes the hair to stand up,
  • rubbing a balloon can make it like a magnet.
  • we used cornflakes, salt, hair and paper; the paper worked the best.
  • using friction allowed us to make static electricity, rubbing the balloon on the carpet.

Some comments from the students:

Zane - I enjoyed using balloons, cornflakes and paper to experiment with static electricity.

Michael - My favourite experiment is using the balloon, rubbing it on carpet and seeing the cornflakes cling to the balloon.

Hansvi - I hypothesised that the cornflakes would stick to the balloon, I was surprised that I was correct.

Aryan - we rubbed a balloon on the floor and then put the balloon to the salt, it stuck to the balloon and had a fizzy sound.

P-2 News

Mathematics Time!

This week, the P-2 students have been learning about the weight of different objects. The Prep students have been hefting the foods in their lunch boxes and items around the classroom, to find which items are heavier or lighter and which are the same. They then have been testing their predictions using balance scales.

Nirav, Brenton and Cody found that a container of 6 cherries, a jam sandwich and a painted newspaper spider, weighed the same as, 1 bag of cut up oranges, a piece of Cling Wrap and a painted newspaper snail.
