PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE DEBACLE

President Donald Trump goes head to head with Democratic nominee Joe Biden.

The two men are going head to head to try and “Make America great again”. September 29th saw the first presidential 90 minute debate which was held in Cleveland Ohio and with every minute of it, there was an interruption or a misleading fact which suggests we have seen the first of many debates to go off track.

During this fiery debate, many things where brought up that where untrue or very off subject. The debate was meant to be a professional discussion about what each candidate would do for America and how they would help the current Covid-19 issue. The amount of facts that need to be corrected was astonishing. Trump claimed that they are “weeks away from a vaccine” which is untrue, as most public health experts have said that the vaccine will be ready for the public in Mid 2021 at the earliest.

These grown men are meant to be professional politicians, however during the first debate they where anything but when at one-point Biden told the president to “Shut up!”. Even the moderator Chris Wallace from Fox news could hardly get a word in due to Biden and Trump talking over each other. Trump also brought up Biden's son and his substance addiction which was a low road to go down, however Biden stood his ground and reminded Trump that a lot of Americans have a problem with substance use and/or addiction and that he is proud of his son for fighting back.

“One day, it’s like a miracle, it will disappear”, “A very contagious virus…But… we have tremendous control over it” were Trumps thoughts about a virus that apparently America has control over and will disappear.  This same virus infected Donald and Melania Trump as well as other American politicians. Trump was discharged from hospital just a few days after contracting the virus.

Trump claims that he is immune to the virus now and “has a protective glow”, which is most definitely incorrect. The president has also refused to do a virtual debate because “I’m not going to waste my time”. Some people believe that Donald Trump is naïve to think that virtual debates are a waste of time and that Corona will just go away. Where as others believe that he is going to save America from this pandemic.

Personally, I believe that America needs a lot more than just a change of presidency.
