Junior School

There are some interesting and exciting things happening for Junior School students in the coming days and weeks. Here is just a snapshot of a couple:

Year 5 RFS Incursion – Friday Week 2 (23 October)

To deepen the learning in this semester’s Geography unit, Year 5 are lucky to be welcoming firefighters from the Mooney Mooney RFS brigade. Don’t be alarmed if you see fire trucks in the carpark and high-vis uniforms around the Junior School on Friday! Many thanks to Mr Viney from the TAS department for organising his RFS colleagues to join us on this occasion. Students will remember being spellbound by Mr Viney’s stories and photographs of last summer’s bushfire season at College Assembly early this year.

Book Week Character Parade and Online Book Fair – Thursday Week 3 (29 October)

Not even a global pandemic can prevent our (slightly belated) Book Week celebrations! We are looking forward to seeing the imaginative costumes boys devise around this year’s theme – Curious Creatures, Wild Minds. As always, we STRONGLY ENCOURAGE improvised and homemade costumes over bought costumes, but please remember this is a fun, low-pressure, non-competitive event! You may wish to have a look at the shortlisted books and winners - click here for website.

We are hosting an online book fair this year. All purchases result in a donation to the Westcourt Library, so as you build your own library you also contribute to the school’s resources. Please explore the titles available - click here for website

Selfless Silence Fundraising and Mission Mass – Wednesday and Friday Week 4 (4 November and 6 November)

At this time of year, Junior School students and families show their incredible energy and generosity by fundraising for our local, national and global partners in the spirit of Blessed Edmund Rice. Over the last ten years this has raised over a quarter of a million dollars! This year as in 2019 we have committed to a morning of Selfless Silence in support of our fundraising efforts. This means that lessons take place as normal – but in silence. This small personal sacrifice and the many small challenges it presents helps to remind us of the many big challenges our fundraising partners overcome every day in the good work they do.

In our annual Junior School Mission Mass, we celebrate in a special way our solidarity with all those who promote the work of mission around the world – including our local partner St Edmund's, our national partner Catholic Mission, and our global partner Chetanalaya in India.

We look forward to sharing stories and pictures of these great events with you in future editions of the Especean!
