NAIDOC Week in the Library

As part of NAIDOC Week the McCarthy Library has been celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture.  The 2020 NAIDOC Week theme ‘Always Was, Always Will Be,’ recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years.  We have worked closely with our NAIDOC organisers and been privileged to host some fantastic works by our students which were part of the magnificent display.

The Library staff have been encouraging students to borrow and readbooks and experience texts by First Nations authors.  In the Library students have also been encouraged to browse our selection and searched our catalogue for great reads.  In our Collections, students can find a wealth of fiction, poetry, memoirs and titles in the nonfiction subjects.  To conduct a search looking for a specific item such as an author by an Australian First Nations author there are many current and historical resources our Library Catalogue.

Try this search strategy:

  1. Word Search: Aboriginal Peoples
  2. Filter by Collection (left hand-side of screen)
  3. Narrow the number of resources by ticking the type of resource you wish to select.
