National Sorry Day & National Reconciliation Week

National Sorry Day is an Australia-wide observance held on May 26 each year. This day gives people the chance to come together and share the steps towards healing for the Stolen Generations, their families and communities. Stolen generations refer to Indigenous Australians who were forcibly removed from their families and communities.

National Reconciliation Week.

National Reconciliation Week – 27 May to 3 June – is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

During the Wellbeing sessions with Alex students designed their own unique hand prints and posters that represented their connection to the community and their shared histories and cultures and discussed the significance of the day.

Also, the preps enjoyed a picnic in the garden to commemorate National Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week.

Junior School Council members decided to hold a Wear It Yellow Day on Friday 2nd June. All funds from Wear it Yellow go to Children's Ground's innovative learning and wellbeing work for First Nations communities in the Northern Territory and Central Australia. Led by First Nations Elders and educators, this educational approach privileges First Nations culture while incorporating the best of Western teaching. Thank you to the families that donated!
