Years F/1

It has been another busy week in the F/1 room this week. We have continued working hard on our sounds and both Kangaroo and Koala groups have been doing an amazing job with their sounds. It is great to see they are all still so engaged and eager to learn new sounds and give them all a go even when it is a bit tricky to write them.

This week in writing we have been having a go at something new. We have been talking about how a sentence is a complete thought. We have been focusing on including a who/what and what they are doing. We have looked at some examples and then we came up with some examples together. After students had some information we looked at a picture and we had to write a sentence including who and what they were doing. They did an amazing job looking at the picture and getting all the information. It was even more impressive watching them say the sounds to write the words.

This week in maths we have looking at sharing. We have been using different stories about sharing items out to people and making sure that we create equal groups. We were all given two animals each and 10 bits of food and we had to share them equally between the two animals and we tired this with a range of different numbers. The students loved it and thought it was an amazing activity. They were also given a packet of smarties and they put all the smarties into colour groups to see if they could make equal groups. Afterward they shared the smarties to two equal groups. Some found they could share them equally into equal groups others found they had one left over. They were so excited and engaged throughout the entire lesson.

In-between all the maths sharing work we were able to fit in some addition work and they smashed it out of the park. It is great to see the confidence growing in the foundation students with all these new topics. The positive attitude from all the students has been awesome.
