Much Ado

What a massive couple of weeks we've had in Performing Arts! Our students and staff have been involved in a number of events including the NEVR Concert and our Showcase Series, with many of our students about to head off to Production Camp.  Next week our VCE Music students will perform their Unit 1 & 3 Recital.

Planning is well underway for a number of events in Term 2 including our production of The Little Mermaid, Music Camp and our Gala Concert at Bunjil Place.

A reminder to Parents that the Music Camp event is now open on Compass for payment and consent. The due date for full payment or commencement of payment plan is today, 2 June, however we have extended that to Friday 9 June. Please contact Nicholetta in the Music Office (nri@wantirnacollege.vic.edu.au 9801 7149) if you require a tailored payment plan.

I'd like to thank students and staff for their efforts, resilience and hard work over the past few weeks.

Showcase Series

This week, all the Instrumental Music and Dance students performed in the Showcases over four incredible nights.  The Audiences loved the shows and not just because they were family and friends!! The students did a fantastic job! Our first time performers showed a lot of courage and were supported by the teachers and senior students.  Personally, it has been a huge week and by our last performance (which was a full house!) students were tired and emotional and it was great to see how everyone supported each other behind the scenes to pull it all together. The tech crew did a really great job, setting very cool lighting  for each night.  My fellow Captains and I, sold door tickets and Mc'd (almost stealing the show, I must say...)

On Monday, the Year 9/10 Dance Artistry and VCE Dance students performed in the Dance showcase. We arrived in the College Theatre at 6:30pm to get ready and warm up for the big night ahead. Everyone had butterflies in their stomachs and we were quite nervous, but we were all very excited to showcase what we had been working on for so long. The audience were engaged and clapping along to our dances, which made us feel supported. Everyone was so encouraging backstage, and we had a lot of fun and even had our own little chant to motivate us. Overall, it was a great night and experience. It was also very rewarding to hear all the amazing feedback we received.

Keely Bonica & Emma Freyer - 9/10 Dance Artistry

This year’s showcase was a great experience and great fun to be apart of. It was so great finally getting to perform our solos on stage after months of choreographing and rehearsing. Being able to perform in a showcase with the year 9/10s was a nice way to get to know them and see what they’ve also been working on. It was so cool to see our dances coming together, performing in our costumes and lighting, to one of the biggest audiences we’ve had. As a Unit 3 student it’s sad knowing this will be one my last showcases, but this was a night I will never forget.

Kesiah Rawlings - Unit 3 Dance

This was my first time performing a solo in front of an audience, so I had some pre-performance nerves. My peers were so supportive and we banded together backstage to calm our nerves before performing our solos. It was also amazing to watch the 9/10 dancers, as you can always draw different ideas and inspiration from other performance. Overall it was a great opportunity to showcase our hard work and I can’t wait to get on stage again next semester!

Tech Crew

The wonderful performances this week would not have been possible without the hard work and creativity of Mr Andrew Lewis and the students in the Tech Crew.  Like a duck, performances that seem calm on the surface, can have lots going on on underneath.  The Tech Crew busily work before, during and after every event to make it run smoothly. Thanks again for their efforts.
