Yr 9 Visual Arts & Yr11&12 Visual Communication Design

Year 9 Visual Arts:

A couple of weeks ago Year 9’s set off to the NGV: Ian Potter MELBOURNE NOW exhibition.

A wonderful and amazing opportunity for our Year 9’s to view new and contemporary art and design from local artists and designers.

With their own gallery education officer to guide and inspire critical and creative thinking, our Year 9’s were able to explore guided discussion of ideas and narrative expressed through the artworks. Viewing artworks deeply embedded in tradition and culture, students were able to compare new ideas in art and form deeper understandings on how stories of family and life can be expressed through art.

Students also enjoyed a self-guided visit to the iconic Hosier Lane where Melbourne’s urban art scene is globally renowned, gave our Year 9 students insight into the changeable world of street art and its importance to Melbourne’s political art world.

Year 11 and 12 Visual Communication Design:

A couple of weeks ago our Year 11 and 12 VCD students visited Top Designs 2023 at Melbourne Museum. This visit provided design students with a valuable insight into the SAT folio process of previous VCE students.

The works on display enabled our students to engage with social and environmental design issues and how design can impact change. Being able to view design, architecture, product and fashion design, media and integrated technology design enabled our students to broaden their own design horizons and prepare for their own SAT folios.
