SCHOOL CLOSURE DAY -Tuesday, 13th June

Our school closure day will be an opportunity to continue to engage our educators in their ongoing professional development in the area of feedback.

Feedback includes the giving and receiving of feedback – student to teacher, student to student and teacher to student.  For feedback to have maximum impact learners must be able to understand it and they should be given time to act on it. For this to happen it should be given against the success criteria for the lesson with the aim of closing the gap in learning.  Feedback flourishes when there are trusting relationships in the classroom and across the whole school  - when students (and teachers) are happy to say “I need help” or “I do not know”.

While collaborating with each other, our educators will be provided with opportunities to continue to develop best feedback practices.

We thank our families for their support.

CONFIRMATION

We congratulate our Year 6 students who made their Confirmation on Friday 16th May and to you their families who continue to nurture and guide them on their faith and life journey.

A special thank you to Anne Chapman and Kate Williams for all their hard work in supporting families in preparing the children this term.

SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS

On Friday 16th June,  we will be celebrating the Solemnity of The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.  We invite our families and friends to join us at our at paraliturgy in our Sacred Heart Church at 9:10am.

O most holy heart of Jesus,
fountain of every blessing,
I adore You,
I love You,
and with lively sorrow for my sins
I offer You this poor heart of mine.
Make me humble, patient, pure and
wholly obedient to Your will.

Amen

YEAR 4 SACRAMENT OF THE EUCHARIST

The Sacrament of the Eucharist is commonly referred to as Holy Communion, or Communion.  The Eucharist is one of the three Sacraments of Initiation into full membership of the Catholic Church, the other two sacraments being Baptism and Confirmation.  We celebrate the Eucharist whenever we attend Mass.

As Catholics, we believe the Eucharist is the most powerful way to encounter the real presence of Jesus Christ. During Mass, we remember what Jesus did for us in his life, death and resurrection and recall the Last Supper – the final meal Jesus shared with his disciples. Then, through our prayers to the Holy Spirit, the bread and wine we place on the altar are transformed into the Body and Blood of Christ. When we receive Communion, we believe that we receive the person of Jesus into our very beings.

Receiving Communion at Mass calls us into unity and fellowship with each other, to live what we receive and believe, and to show that Christ is present in our world through all that we do and say. As such, the Sacrament of the Eucharist lies at the heart of our faith.

Children preparing to receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist for the first time are  in Year 4 at Sacred Heart. These children will have prepared for and received the Sacrament of Reconciliation in the previous year (Year 3).

Children will participate in in the classroom program and a reflection day at Mary MacKillop Centre.  Families will be invited to attend our Faith Formation evening before the sacrament.  We see our role as one of working in partnership with the family and the parish community to support the growth and development of the child.

The Sacrament of the Eucharist in 2023 will take place during Mass at the Sacred Heart Church on the following days:

Sunday 20th August, 10am

Sunday 27th August, 10am

Sunday 3rd September, 10am

Supporting the Learning of Times Tables

When teaching multiplication teachers focus on teaching students to understand multiplication and also practising and remembering times tables can be very helpful so that students develop fluency. Below is an outline of some strategies that can be helpful for students improving the fluency they recall times tables.
