Good news - inside and outside the classroom
Chronicle
Year 8 Camp
Last week, the Year 8's headed off to Alexandra for three days of adventure and fun. The students had a great time canoeing, rockclimbing, tackling the high ropes course and taking a shot at the bullseye during archery. As night time fell, the students put on their dancing shoes for the Disco. The students and staff had a great time!
TIS Day
Last Wednesday (14th June), Year 11 and 12 students attended the TIS day at GoTafe Tone Road Campus. There were many Universities., Colleges and Tafes there to give the students information about pathways after Year 12.
Inside the Classroom
The technology departments are hard at work completing their end of semester assessments. Pictured below we have the Year 11 Product design and Technology students desinging items inspired by the Little Black Dress and the Year 9 Wood students making designs of their choice.
Outside the Classroom
Year 7s and 8s enjoyed indoor basketball at lunchtime during wet weather on Tuesday
Year 11 Outdoor Ed Canoe Camp
On Wednesday the 31st of May, the Year 11 Outdoor & Environmental Studies class ventured out to the Murray River for a three-day canoeing trip to complement their efforts in the classroom. After a false start in the Mount Feathertop hike in Term One, there was much anticipation in the air as the students filtered their way into the Outdoor Ed Shed on a cloudy and drizzly Wangaratta morning.
Fortunately, as the group drove Northwest toward Tocumwal, the prevailing drizzle vanished faster than the music career of Vanilla Ice, leaving pleasant, mild conditions for a sojourn on Australia’s longest river.
At the boat ramp in Tocumwal, canoes were hauled from the trailer and laden with supplies for a two-night, thirty-kilometre journey down the river. Students’ fears about their boats’ lack of stability with such loads were soon abated, and the group began meandering along the state border at a comfortable pace of five kilometres per hour.
A beautiful campsite was found on the wide reaching, sandy banks that the River Murray offers, with an excellent campfire crafted by keen students looking to hone their skills.
The students were treated to a balmy 23 degrees on the middle day (which happened to be the first day of winter) as they made their merry way down 25 kilometres of beautiful river. Plenty of stops for breaks allowed everyone to stretch their legs occasionally, along with plenty of snacks for good measure.
A sensational campsite at a beautiful beach was found, with plenty of yarns shared around the fire as the group settled into their second night away from home.
A short paddle on the Friday morning allowed for an obligatory KFC stop in Yarrawonga before an early dismissal after a dazzlingly efficient pack-up at the Outdoor Ed Shed.
All students should be commended for their excellent behaviour and enthusiasm while on the camp. It was truly fantastic to see. A special thanks to Ms Hailey Ronald and Mr Alex Johnson for coming on the camp and making the experience possible for the students.
