Message from the Principal

We were very fortunate to have renowned Australian World Music Star Mitch Tambo perform at the school on Monday, ahead of NAIDOC week in early July. He performed several of his hits and spoke with the whole school. His high energy kept students enthralled. throughout. Check out this remarkable version of Icehouse's Great Southern Land from our YouTube channel, sung in his own language!

I hope you get to see this ahead of our Subject Expo this Tuesday, 20th June. This is a new format for us, and set up to to showcase our wide range of subjects from Year 7 to 12. Younger students can get a sense of what opportunities are ahead and consider possible pathways, and senior students making subject choices in the coming months can make informed decisions. Specialist staff from each area will be on hand to answer questions. We encourage all students and parents/carers to attend. The Subject Expo is being held in the Performing Arts Centre (PAC) from 4 pm to 6 pm. Please also note our new Subject Hanbook format which we are hosting online to save printing resources. You can always access via our website (under Curriculum) or via Favourites within Compass.

Thursday night 22nd June, is our annual Mid-Winter Concert. Our music students will put on a great show to celebrate and share their work and practice from semester one, ahead of their performance tour to Phillip Island in the first week of Term 3.

For many years now, our school has been sending students to the School For Student Leadership (SSL), which is a special program open to Year 9 students in government schools. We have six places each year, and this year our students went to the SSL Gnurad Gundidj campus in western Victoria, about an hour inland from Warrnambool. It is a purpose-built residential campus, and our students join other groups of six from schools all over Victoria to live and learn for the whole term. Families drop them at the start of term, and they stay for the entire 8 or 9 weeks, depending on the length of the term. At the midpoint, families visit and collect their children for the weekend to reconnect.

Our students are about to finish up, so our Year 9 Year Level Leaders, Elly Gales and Lee Unwin, travelled on Friday, 16th June to visit the students and hear them present their Community Leadership Project that they will be undertaking on their return in Semester 2.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and relaxing mid year holiday. We look forward to welcoming all students back on Monday, 10th July for Term 3.
