Year 3/4 Think You Know Incursion

Who should you share your password with? What do you do if another player in the game starts asking personal questions? What should you do if you want to get a new game or app on your device?

These were some of the questions that Senior Constable Tania, a Proactive Police  Officer, discussed with the Year 3 and 4 students on Tuesday. The purpose of the incursion was to discuss what students see, say and do online. It also looked at a variety of online challenges they may encounter and steps they can take to deal with these.

There were three main takeaways we asked the students to remember:

To keep screens out of bedrooms

Ask Mum, Dad and other adults in our family not to post photos of them in school uniform

When playing online games, only talk about the game and if other players start asking personal questions, tell a trusted adult

The students had lots of questions for Tania both related to staying safe online and to do with her job as a police officer. It was an excellent way to wrap up eSmart Week.

Year 4 Book Reviews

As part of the Year Four Speaking and Listening task, students will have the opportunity to present a book review they made during CAFE literacy lessons last week.

Upcoming Year 4 Excursion - Melbourne Museum

A reminder that, as part of their Term 2 Inquiry study into Australian history, Year 4 students will travel to the Melbourne Museum for an excursion on Thursday, 15th of June (Week 8). The excursion will depart VPS at 9am and return shortly before the end of the school day.

Payments for this excursion are now due to be paid on Qkr. Please let your child's teacher know if you have any questions about the excursion.

Healesville Sanctuary Visit

On Friday 19th May, two bus loads of very excited Year 3 students headed to Healesville Sanctuary to see the Australian animals we have been learning about as part of our Inquiry unit this term.  All the students loved seeing their totem animal, and the Flight Show was a highlight. Special thanks to our awesome parent helpers for the day and the Sanctuary's Education Officer and local Indigenous woman, Lisa, who explained all about how First Nations People have lived on Country sustainably for tens of thousands of years.

Amazing Aussie Travel Expo at VPS!

To bring our Inquiry unit for this term to a exciting finale, we will be inviting parents of Year 3 students and the students from other year levels at VPS, to join us at our 'Amazing Aussie Travel Expo',  in the stadium in the last week of this term.

The Year 3 students have chosen an Australian landmark or place that they will be presenting at the Expo. They will be creating a poster with all the information they have found, as well as preparing a display table. This will be the culmination of what we have been working on in Inquiry this term, and well as using the skills we have been learning in writing – information reports and newspaper articles.

Please look out for further details on the day and time for your visit!

Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships

In the coming fortnight Year 4 students will complete two lessons in their classrooms from the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships program. This term's first lesson will focus on educating the students about how Children's Media plays a role in creating social norms that can affect the way we behave throughout our lives. The second lesson will involve a deep investigation of what it means to be respectful and how this can be carried out by children and adults.

Throughout the two lessons, students will get the opportunity to take part in interactive games, class discussions and collaborative small-group work. Further lessons from the RRRR program will be conducted in Term 3.
