Be Fit, Be Well Speaker - Milly Tapper

The Grade 3/4 students were lucky enough to have a visit from Olympian AND Paralymian Milly Tapper. She is a very talented table tennis player who spoke about the importance of resilience, gratitude and how she has overcome massive challenges to succeed in ultimate olympic glory. The students were able to try on her Australian uniform and have a hold of her silver medal. We can’t thank Milly enough for her time at our school and wish her all the best in Paris for the 2024 Olympic games.

AUSLAN

In LOTE, we have begun by revising important things from Term 1 and are starting to expand on these skills such as incorporating fingerspelling and colours into new topics. Our main focuses for this term will be around family & where we live. Students have started to sign full sentences about who is in their family and being able to describe them by their appearance, likes & dislikes. We are also learning to describe where we live by fingerspelling our suburb or street, as well as learning signs for furniture and rooms in our house.

VISUAL ART

Hello everyone,

For those of you that do not know me, my name is Amber Augustus (Miss A) and I am the new visual arts educator at OPS, I just wanted to inform our community about what we have been exploring this term and what we will continue to engage with for the rest of term two.

When I joined the school my first task was to explore the children’s voices and what they would like to achieve in visual arts, my consensus was that all children wanted to engage with clay and paint. This term we have hit the ground running with our Vincent Van Gogh inspired art works, by creating replicas of his famous painting “Starry night” and continuing to self-portraits. For the younger year levels, we have also practised technical skills of art surrounding primary and secondary colours to build their confidence in the art room. Our students have shown resilience and such a positive attitude with trying out new techniques that are tricky and I am so proud of the amazing artwork they have created. In the coming weeks we will start to explore air dry clay!
