Remembrance Month and the St Bede’s College Perpetual Memorial Book

In a very special way, the month of November is dedicated to the memory of our deceased family members and friends, and all who have gone before us.

Beginning with All Saints Day and All Souls Day, and continuing throughout the month, we hold in prayer those who have died.

To mark the special way that the Catholic tradition responds to death, St Bede’s College has a Perpetual Memorial Book that is kept in the Mentone Campus Chapel as an invitation to others to join you in praying for your deceased relatives and friends.

Please forward the name/s of any family member or friend to Ria Greene (rgg@stbedes.catholic.edu.au ) that you would like to have added to the book.

These names will be especially prayed for throughout November.

Please note – if you have added names before then there is no need to submit them again as it is a Perpetual Book.

Vinnie's Christmas Appeals

There are many people in our local community who struggle to make ends meet day-to-day.  For these people Christmas can be a very difficult time as they would like to be able to celebrate the way many of us do, but they don’t have the money to do so.  So, we want to do something about that!

STUDENT ACTION MENTONE: Each Homeroom and Tutor Group will assemble a hamper of items that will make a difference in the lives of those in need this Christmas.  The hampers include food items that are both essential and celebratory, along with some items for personal care.  The idea is that each student will commit to bringing in one item to contribute to the class hamper from the list provided. Ask your son what he has offered to donate.

STUDENT ACTION BENTLEIGH EAST: This year, at Bentleigh East, the St Vincent De Paul Society has requested Woolworths and Village Cinema gift cards. The Woolworths cards will provide the necessities for Christmas and the movie tickets will enable a day out with the family. We are seeking cash donations that will be used to purchase these gift cards. Donations will be collected by your son’s homeroom teacher.

Pope Francis' Prayer Intentions for November

Pope Francis’ Prayer Intentions for November

Each month, Pope Francis has a universal prayer intention that we are invited to participate in. For November, Pope Francis invites everyone to pray for and be near those who suffer from exhaustion, burn-out and depression.  Pope Francis prayed: “Let us pray that people who suffer from depression or burn-out will find support and a light that opens them up to life”.

Maybe the words of Jesus can help us and others to find solace: “Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
