Legal Studies

Legal Eagles

Both Year 11 Legal Studies classes participated in mock trials at the end of Term 2. Students played the role as Judge, Plaintiff, Defendant, Clerk, Witness or Jury Member. The students did an excellent job in either trying to convince the jury that the Plaintiff should be awarded damages, convincing the jury that the Defendant is not liable or playing the role of staff to ensure legal procedures were followed. All students had an opportunity to be a member of a Jury to help understand the importance of standard of proof. It was great to see the students putting theory into practice. There are definitely some students that are lawyers in the making.

In term 3, a group of Year 11 Legal Studies students were invited to a zoom Q and A with a County Court Judge. Our students asked insightful questions and gained a better understanding of how the legal system attempts to achieve the principles of justice – fairness, equality and access.
