Year 9

Mentone Campus

As we near the end of another interrupted year, there is a sense of optimism amongst the Year 9 cohort. They can see that 2022 may resemble something more like a normal year at school. Despite not experiencing a full Year 8 or 9, missing band rehearsals, camps, the social, ACC etc, they are excited about moving into the senior school and having an uninterrupted journey through their senior years. I must say that that they have impressed me as a genuinely friendly, polite and engaged group of young men. So, I thank the boys for the really positive and resilient way in which they approached the lockdowns and the returns to school. As always, I feel lucky to be able to interact with so many wonderful young men on a daily basis.

Next week the students have normal classes except for the times they are in exams. The exams will run during Period 3 and 4 each day: Monday (English), Tuesday (History/Geography), Wednesday (Science) and Thursday (Mathematics). Students are not permitted to go home after their exams. They are required to attend Period 5 classes each day. Friday is a professional practice day for staff, so the students will have a chance to rest on this day.

Later next week, the students will receive information about their tutor groups. They will begin their Year 10 classes on the first day of Flying Start which is November 23. This transition can be a point of anxiety for many students, as they will have a new locker located in a new part of the school, new classrooms, new teachers and new routines. Please reassure your sons that we will support them through this transition.

By now you will have received information about the new computers that the students will receive on the first day of Flying Start. Please be aware that there is a computer agreement that needs to be signed by the parents and students in order for the computer to be given to the student.

Any questions, please feel free to contact me at the College.
