Principal's Post

Dear Parents,

Today is anticipated as the last day of Remote Learning because we are back to school for on campus tuition from next Wednesday, November 3rd, 2021. The staggered return to face to face teaching will have been completed by the end of today. Emotions are certainly mixed and many staff and students are feeling moments of anxiety, relief and excitement. Our capacity to plan for not only the remainder of this year but calendar events for 2022 is also providing a sense of hope.

Each year the Year 12 English Exam provides a notable milestone. The longest written exam and the one that many students find challenging regarding preparation. This year the hype associated with COVID-19 and the extraordinary precautions to minimise risk and provide a safe environment added to the normal tensions associated with the first written exam of the season. Smiles of relief as they left the Provence Centre reflected “Thank God it is over” to smiles of satisfaction that the practice exams and SAC preparation were consistent with the questions asked. Teachers were determined to provide preparation, routines and experiences that have worked in the past so were very creative to replicate beneficial procedures online. Thank you to Clare Caldwell and her team of English teachers who were so creative in the execution of their responsibilities.

Last Friday Year 9 Leaders Kai Russell, Ryan Peiris, Antonio Di Giovine, Roberto Di Giovine and Andrew Warren Samuel attended the Global Youth Forum for Student Leaders which is an interactive three part programme that is designed to develop young people’s awareness of global issues and their role as a global citizens. Mr Rowland will comment further as they return to the Forum as it is a three part learning programme.

Last week The Year 11 VCE Australian and Global Politics class taught by Mr Nick Young hosted the Member of Hotham, Ms Clare O’Neil MP, who presented Rion Morgan his prize for winning the 2021 Hotham Writing Prize. The students had an opportunity to discuss issues and ask questions of the Federal Member. Rion’s topic and ideas resonated with the judges who appreciated his insight into the issues of Mental Health for Young People. His article appeared in Issue 31 of the College Newsletter.

Yours sincerely,
