Maths, Inquiry and Exercise
MLC have started their new topic in Maths last week; we are looking at Chance and Probability. Students have been investigating events and games of chance using five words of probability: impossible, unlikely, even chance, likely, and certain. The children have thoroughly enjoyed analysing a few challenging games and using their Maths knowledge to decide which games are fair and which games are unfair. They have been doing a great job backing up their choices but with evidence. Their problem solving skills are getting better every day.
Last week in Inquiry, the students have been taking on the role of a coder in a program called Scratch. This is a great way for students to get their imagination flowing and be creative. Through Scratch, students can work on important skills such as systematically reasoning and working collaboratively. Their goal has been to create a program such as a game or an animation which incorporates one of the forces we have been looking at in our Inquiry topic of Forces and Functions.
Most of us have been stuck inside for a number of weeks now, spending a lot of time at our desks, staring at a computer screen. It can be hard to get your daily dose of exercise during lockdown so the students of MLC and I have been getting up off our seats and diving head first into some exercise fun. Last week, the students and I participated in a workout challenge while following a video on YouTube called ‘Family Fun Cardio Workout.’ The children loved getting their heart rate up and were moving around the room with big smiles on their faces.
Kind regards
