Reports, Money and Inquiry

As we wind up the term with our report writing genre, we wrote our final reports on seals , flamingos, crabs, hippos and unicorns. We learnt lots of interesting information.

Did you know?

  • The unicorn is the national animal of Scotland.
  • Crabs have 10 legs and the front two are called pincers. They walk sideways.
  • Hippos can’t swim.
  • Flamingoes can sleep while standing on one leg.
  • Seals live in the Arctic and the Antarctic and their arms are called flippers.

To finish this unit of writing, the students were asked to write as many facts as they could recall about any of the animals we have learnt about this term.

In Maths, we have been learning about Money. We made wallets and used coins to ‘play shops’. We put price tags on items around the room and then bought them. We had a counter and a cash register too.

We also revised place value by adding sprinkles to donuts. We had coloured ‘sprinkles’ in hundreds, tens and ones. The children were given a number and they needed to add the correct amount of sprinkles to their donut.

In our Mappen Inquiry unit, we have been immersed in the properties and uses of different materials. We have been looking at different types of materials, such as paper, wood, foil and fabric.  We made a river using lots of different blue coloured materials such as tissue paper, cover paper, cardboard and cellophane.

Mrs Durrant and I are avid Demons supporters. Mrs Durrant decorated our classroom door and window with lots of photos. You might even spot our furry friends dressed up in the finest Demons' outfits. The last time Melbourne won a Grand Final was 1964!

Our class toy, Milton, has been visiting each member of the class over the last few weeks and has been going on lots of adventures.

Kind regards
