Reflections of Lockdown and Student Wellbeing Day

The piece below is from Emma which is a reflection on her experiences throughout lockdown. We think it is important for the children to be able to express their feelings, as we navigate these unknown times.

No wonder they call it lockdown, you're not literally locked in your house but it sure feels like you are. I hate lockdown because it's so frustrating. People are losing their jobs because of all of these lockdowns. The most challenging part is not seeing your friends. Imagine seeing your friends through a screen every day.

It is not all bad though, one positive part is that the cases do go down even if it is only a little each day, but every little bit helps. Another positive thing is that as a family, we have been spending more time together. We have spent our days playing soccer in the house and enjoying family games together. We also wake up a tiny bit later since we can get to school just by turning on the laptop. I do enjoy being able to eat in class as my parents bring my lunch to me.

One of the things I am most looking forward to when we get back to school is seeing my friends and seeing the St. Bridget’s teachers. Lockdown can get pretty lonely. It will be great to be back in the classroom where we won’t have to worry about the internet lagging. This has been an interesting experience but I am ready to be back at school to see everyone face-to-face.

The following piece is from Mackenzie which is a reflection of our recent Student Wellbeing Day. It is wonderful to read that the Wellbeing Day was impactful for our students which gave them a break from their current routines.

On Thursday, the 16 of September, 2021, there was an Student Wellbeing Day. All of the students that were online and at school, did 4 different activities, in 4 different groups.

We each decorated a pot by drawing and painting our designs to make our pot unique. We also planted 2 sunflower seeds in the pot and hopefully we can watch it grow into a big sunflower by the end of the year. We had 4 rounds of exciting trivia.  We drew on plain white tiles with markers to create our own beautiful design and we went on a few virtual excursions to Disneyland, zoos and art galleries. Finally, everyone had an amazing time when we did some dance, exercises and some meditation.

The Student Wellbeing Day was a lot of fun and I appreciate that St Bridget’s made this day possible.
