Science and Sustainability Term 4 Overviews

Prep

This term prep students will be inquiring into the Organ Pipes National Park in Keilor. The Driving question for our inquiry is: How can we ask questions and make observations to understand the environment around us? Students will identify different plants, animals, fish and organisms that live in the Jacksons Creek – which runs through the National Park. Micro-bats and Sugar Gliders will be investigated and students will have an opportunity to present information about them, as well as building houses for them. Flora of the area will be explored, with a focus on the native flowers.

 

Year 1

This term year one students will be inquiring into the Organ Pipes National Park in Keilor. The Driving question for our inquiry is: How can we ask questions and make observations to understand the environment around us? Students will use their observations to explain how the animals and plants all live together harmoniously in the park. Students will look into the Geological structures of the Organ pipes and make their own Scoria. Students will explore the flora of the area, as well as the fauna – Sugar gliders and Micro-bats that live in the park. 

 

Year 2

This term year two students will be inquiring into the Organ Pipes National Park in Keilor. The Driving question for our inquiry is: How can we ask questions and make observations to understand the environment around us? Students will use their observations to explain how the animals and plants all live together harmoniously in the park. Students will look into the Geological structures of the Organ pipes and make their own Scoria. Year 3

This term year three students will be inquiring into the Organ Pipes National Park in Keilor. The Driving question for our inquiry is: How can we ask questions and make observations to understand the environment around us? Students will use their observations to explain show their Geological understanding of the Basalt rockface, Tesselated pavement and the Rosette Rock formation by making a model of at least one. Students will look into how the micro-bats and sugar gliders live at the park and make breeding boxes for them. They will explore Jacksons Creek and learn how this ecosystem sustains itself.

 

Year 4
