Year 6 Orientation for Year 7

Yesterday’s Orientation Day was a great success, and I wish to pay tribute to Mr James Biviano for his excellent organisation of the day and all his efforts to support students as they move towards high school. Although boys made the BIG step when they left their primary school to come to St Patrick’s College, this next step to high school is also a big one, even if it is in the same school. Well done boys, and well done Mr Biviano.

Selfless Silence fundraising TOMORROW!

The big day is almost upon us! Tomorrow morning, we engage in our morning of Selfless Silence. We do this in solidarity with our local partner St Edmund’s, our national partner Catholic Mission, and our global partner Chetanalaya in India. We do this in the spirit of the Gospel and Edmund Rice, as one of the ways we animate and express our commitment to the EREA Touchstones of Justice and Solidarity and Gospel Spirituality.

Fundraising dollars are due Friday, so please assist boys in a last-minute push for sponsorship and be sure they collect all money pledged (or pay it out of their own savings and collect later). The actions of fundraising and staying silent all morning are great on their own,but working with your boys to reflect on why taking such action is such an important part of our tradition, is very important, too. Please support the boys to do this!

Day of the Notables

Last Friday, the students of Year 6 Black gathered in the McGlade Library to celebrate their learning at the Day of the Notables. Following weeks of extensive research which began during the remote learning period, students prepared engaging displays to share with their peers and teachers. Visiting classes and staff members were thoroughly impressed with the quality of the presentations and the level of knowledge that each student possessed. Some of the eminent figures on display included Neil Armstrong, Guglielmo Marconi, Amelia Earhart, Si Joseph Whitworth, Greta Thunberg and St Patrick’s College Old Boy, Peter Skrzynecki. I would like to congratulate the boys for their incredible efforts; it was a fantastic day!

Some reflections from Year 6 Black students:

“I really enjoyed having the opportunity to share my learning with other students.” – Sarkis Francis (Elon Musk)

“It was a great learning experience for everyone as we got to find out new information about significant people from history.” – Elio Alessi (Leonardo Da Vinci)

“Our class had chosen people from different fields which made the show case interesting and allowed us to learn about many different notables.” – Hamish Malone (Nelson Mandela)
