Today we celebrate World Teachers’ Day. From my perspective the role of a teacher is a time-honoured calling and the greatest rewards are those small successes when a student performs above an expected level, meets a challenge or perseveres to gain mastery of a difficult skill. I would like to thank all our staff for their endeavours, their resilience and for the difference they make in the lives of our children.

And so the journey has come to an end!

Today our final Remote and Flexible program sessions were completed, the onsite children packed up their learning spaces and the teachers have now got their classrooms ready and fully prepared for a return to school (the old fashioned way) on Monday.

Monday is a school day, Tuesday is Melbourne Cup Day, (public holiday - no school day).

If your family will be away from school on Monday please remember to notify us by using your Compass app.

The classes have all been back at school in some capacity over the last couple of weeks and the opening of all the gates for arrival and dismissal supports the direction around maintaining distancing and spreading the children out as much as is practical. We remind all families from years 3-6 that we want your children coming through the gates as close to 9.00am as possible and all other students should start moving into the playground from 8.45am.

Older siblings (Years 3-6) can enter at the same time as the younger siblings (Prep - 2) and will be dismissed at the same time to reduce the crowds at dismissal time.

Mask wearing has been adopted really well by the older children and many of the younger students have also worn masks for their safety and the protection of others. Cloth masks are more sturdy, easily named, are environmentally more sustainable and can be washed and reused.

We have set up the classrooms following DET guidelines, with doors and windows opened, desks separated, however the much publicised air purifiers have not made an appearance. Perhaps a phone call or a message to the Education Ministers office may get some movement in this space.

The Year 6 Graduation photo for 2021 will be taken next Friday, 5th November at 9.00am. Please ensure your Year 6 students are in full uniform with their bomber jacket and look neat and tidy. We have had to quickly organise this and the photograph is scheduled for 9.00am. Please don't be late.

The dates have been set for School photos in 2022.

The final day of school for 2021 for our students will be Thursday 16th December, with dismissal at 3.30pm. School Council confirmed at the meeting on Monday night that Friday December 17th will be a Curriculum Day (no school day). On that day, school staff will update mandated first aid training, complete handover of welfare and well-being documentation and finalise learning plans and assessment materials on Compass.

TeamKids will operate a full day program for families who require this service.

School commences in 2022 for students on Tuesday, February 1st. (Preps on Monday, February 7th). Staff will have Friday, January 28th and Monday, January 31st as Curriculum days (no school days). These were also approved at School Council on Monday evening.

Finance	August and September Reports approved. Discussion around 2022 Budgeting process and Parent Payment details being sent to the community. French Program fees and Parent Contribution amounts for 2022 were approved.
COVID update	Return to school is proceeding as expected with DET guidelines directing school responses. Mask wearing for students was also discussed and school is promoting and encouraging this important safety measure.
End of year event	Date / time to be confirmed. We have a team working towards the running of this event.

The next school council meeting is on 22nd November, 2021.

All students are required to wear the CJC hats when outside at recess or lunch. Ideally these are clearly labelled and worn correctly. They are broad brimmed to protect faces, noses and necks from the sun.

We have had a number of families arrive at school in recent days in response to a message sent from a phone or watch. These phones must be stored away securely in lockers and or the teacher's desk in a designated strong box and the watches must be in a mode that won’t allow the wearer to send or receive a message. This has been our direction and policy for a long time and I hope this reminder will put a stop to these unnecessary intrusions into the learning day.

Families of year 2 and 3 students have been sent some communication around the upcoming Bring Your Own Designated Device (BYODD) program commencing in 2022. This innovative program provides access to equitable devices for students, is supported by our technicians and will promote and provide technological access to a range of new and exciting curriculum and learning opportunities.

This week a team of staff worked collaboratively on a training program to support the school review process planned for term 3 in 2022. We will update the community about how they can be involved in the review process and the progress towards establishing the strategic direction of the school for the four year period commencing 2023 - 2027.

Following on from the World Teachers’ Day, I have no doubt you can all recall at least one teacher who you had a connection with, a teacher who made a difference in your learning and life journey, a teacher who made the extra effort to work with you in a way that opened the learning up to you and a teacher who may have inspired you to excel, to stay on the learning path even when it was difficult or a teacher who best understood your needs and the way you learned.

The strong winds overnight and early this morning have caused some damage across the suburbs. We have had many branches come down in the yard and we had to make some adjustments for this extreme weather event.

As a result of the high winds, a large tree on the Sebastapol Street side of the school has come to rest against the side of the SLC. We have had to rehouse classes, TeamKids have relocated and we worked across the day to make sure the damage was minimised and cleaned up. What a great way to start the day. Thankfully there is limited structural damage and no one was hurt or in danger at any time.

Les conditions météorologique de Melbourne ne cessent de nous surprendre, la belle journée ensoleillée d’hier a vite fait place à des vents et de la pluie qui se sont déchaînés sur notre ville cette nuit et ce matin !

La pédagogie à distance prend fin aujourd’hui et nous sommes impatients de réunir tous les élèves et personnels à l’école dès lundi matin.

Conférence AAFEBS

La conférence de l’AAFEBS se poursuit avec les formations hebdomadaires offertes en ligne par les professeurs des écoles franco-australiennes membres. Cette semaine, Christelle Breimeyer, notre professeure de Grande Section a animé une formation sur les pratiques d’enseignement en lecture et écriture à CJC. Félicitations pour cette excellente présentation.

Examen du DELF

Le 8 novembre prochain, nos élèves de 6ème participeront à l’oral des examens du DELF (Diplôme d’Étude en Langue Française). Au vu des restrictions toujours en place, les examens auront lieu dans les locaux de l’Alliance Française à St-Kilda. J’en profite à l’avance pour remercier les familles de l’organisation du covoiturage, ce qui permettra à nos enfants de participer à cet important diplôme. Nous leur souhaitons tout le succès qu’ils méritent !

Le 11 novembre, l’examen écrit se tiendra à l’école.

Melbourne weather never ceases to surprise us, yesterday’s beautiful sunny day soon turned into wild wind and rain last night and this morning!

Our remote learning program finally comes to an end today and we are looking forward to reuniting all our students and staff at school on Monday morning.

AAFEBS Conference

The AAFEBS conference is ongoing, with weekly professional learning opportunities offered online by teachers within the network of French-Australian schools. This week, Christelle Breimeyer, our Prep binome teacher facilitated a session on reading and writing practices at CJC. Congratulations for this excellent presentation.

DELF Exams

On November 8th, our Grade 6 binome students will be participating in the oral part of the DELF (French Language Study Diploma). With the current restriction still in place, the exams will take place in the Alliance Française classrooms in St. Kilda. I take this opportunity to thank the families for facilitating car-pooling, which will allow the children to participate in this important diploma. We wish them all the success that they deserve!

The DELF written assessment will be performed at school on November 11.

In 2022 there will be a change to the way we order student stationery. The DET have advised schools that they are no longer able to ‘on-sell’ any items, including stationery, to families and as such parents now have two options by which to provide stationery for their child/ren:

Use our third-party provider, Complete Office Supplies (COS), via their Parent Portal (Further details will be sent to families with the 2022 Parent Payment Arrangements - a list of required items will be provided).
- Ability to select items that you need
- Free delivery to the school for orders over $55
- Packs will be labelled and delivered to the school in readiness for the first day of school.
