Welcome back to Term Four. It has been fantastic to see our students filling the playgrounds and classrooms again and hearing them laugh and re-connect with their friends. Thank you so much for all of your support in helping your children to complete their online tasks. Some of you even braved an appearance in their drama tasks. Thank you for keeping me entertained.

I am looking forward to a rewarding Term of learning and creating....back together at last.

What's Happening?

We have applied to be a part of the Victorian State School's Spectacular for 2022 and I am hopeful that we will be successful (again). I will keep you posted. All VSSS t-shirts and hoodies for 2021 are now available for collection at the front office.

I have attached some information for any students who might be interested in auditioning for a SOLO role with VSSS. This includes backstage crew as well as musicians, singers, dancers and acrobats. Click below to register your interest now.

We're READY! Let's GO!

Welcome to the Victorian State Schools Spectacular 2022.

Auditions and expressions of Interest for the 2022 Victorian State Schools Spectacular are now open!

Here, students can register and reserve themselves an audition. Or you can submit a video as your audition!

We're looking for Student Crew! Register your expression of interest (EOI) to be involved.

As you will be aware, our school production, 'The Wizard of Oz' will now be performed at Burrinja Cultural Center in 2022, once they decide to re-open to school and community groups. We look forward to that time, and thank you for your support and understanding.

Upwey South's Got Talent applications are now open. This is a great opportunity for students who love to share their talents with our school community....whatever that talent might be. All entries need to be submitted via Google classroom. I am looking forward to watching our students SHINE!

Instrumental lessons will commence back at school from Monday 8th November. Please note that some instrumental teachers will continue to teach via Zoom. Please contact Jordan Scotney for more information.

Foundation

We will continue to develop some of the acting skills that were introduced during remote learning as students work collaboratively to create short improvised drama stories. We will be using more traditional Nursery Rhymes and stories as inspiration for drama re-telling, and concentrate on using loud and clear drama voices. I am also looking forward to introducing the students to our Djembe drums.

Level 1 and 2

The students will be consolidating their understanding of drama conventions that they had the opportunity to explore during remote learning. I am looking forward to continuing to work on projecting and articulating when acting, using gestures, facial expressions and exploring moving at different levels. If the weather is kind to us, we will be planning small group drama stories to be performed for each other on our outdoor stage.

Level 3 and 4

We will be continuing with a mix of scripted and improvised drama activities starting with 'Improvised Newspapers' and then heading back down the 'Red Brick Road' for some fun. We will explore the use of exaggerated facial expressions and gestures and use the poetry of Michael Rosen for inspiration. Students will be given creative freedom to draft their own script about their 'Superhero'.

Level 5 and 6

The Level 6 students will be busy working together to prepare a revised version of 'The Wizard of Oz'. They are looking forward to getting into their character's costume and entertaining you with their talents. We will be planning a 'Wizard of Oz' celebration day for later in the term. Watch this space. The level 5 students will be revisiting the structure of a soliloquy and the elements of script writing to prepare their own pieces of drama. We will be looking at the role of a Director and refresh our knowledge of stage directions.
