Konnichiwa, minasan! (Hello, everyone!)

Welcome back to school! It is great to see all the students in person and to be able to teach them face to face! It has been a very challenging year for all of us, but I truly appreciate your kind support during remote learning. Please have a look at the photos of all the great achievements and fun cultural experiences!

Term Four overview

Foundation

Foundation students will continue to learn counters, fruits, animals, days of the week, and important phrases through the famous story ‘Harapeko Aomushi (The Very Hungry Caterpillar)’, by Eric Carle, in Japanese.

Grade1/2

Under the unit ‘My Vending Machine’, Grade 1 and 2 students will continue to learn additional fruit names, feeling temperature words, important shopping phrases, and Japanese currency in Kanji characters.

Grade 3/4

Grade 3 and 4 students are going to learn more about ‘Sports Day’ and ‘Culture Day’ events in Japanese schools. They will also work on reading and writing Hiragana letters.

Grade 5/6

The term 4 unit ‘My School Tour’ will help Grade 5 and 6 students to revise and update their self-introductory phrases. The goal is to be able to create a connected text of those sentences and speak it fluently.

Whole school

We are planning Japanese Day to celebrate our Japanese learning. It is not too early to start thinking about your dress-up; traditional clothing such as ‘kimono’, ‘yukata’, ‘samurai’, ‘sumo’, Japanese anime character, Nintendo game character, Japanese flag colours (red and white), or cute mascot like ‘gudetama (lazy egg), ‘Hello Kitty’, etc
