Library Opening

The library started Term 4 off with a bang!

Our renovations are complete, meaning we have been able to welcome back English classes for reading, other subjects for research, and everyone during break times for study or hanging out. We have so many new and exciting spaces available to students and staff, and our library staff are super keen to have people using them as intended.

The library was planned with students in mind, with many of the areas being things that students had said they wanted in their library. The librarians truly hope that it is everything our students have dreamed of, and more. We have spaces for spending break time with friends, for quiet independent study, for activities and events, group meetings, and classes -- we’d love for all students to stop by and check it out, if they haven’t already.

We have already started running events, with our first morning tea being a celebration for the shortlisted Year 11 students of the Daisy Searby Creative Writing Award. Congratulations to all the nominees, and the winners! We also ran our first ever Book Cafe event, inviting students to come and “taste” some new release books and make recommendations for which ones we should have on our shelves.

Even though it’s nearing the end of the year, we are still getting new books for you to enjoy. Some particularly interesting new reads are Flock: First Nations Stories Then and Now edited by Ellen van Neerven, Henry Hamlet’s Heart by Rhiannon Wilde, Girl Detached by Manuela Salvi, and Pony, the new book by the author of the super popular Wonder, RJ Palacio. These titles and more are now available for students to borrow, and our librarians are always keen to make new recommendations.
