Work Experience

Antonio, Bruce A, Calvin, Kaleb, Leo and Marley recently participated in a weeklong work experience program with MITS partner GHD an engineering and architecture firm; and Rork Projects an Indigenous construction company on a mock project to design a new vertical high school building.

Alumni were assigned to Architecture, Building and Engineering, Civil and urban infrastructure, Environmental Management (Contamination, Remediation and Sustainability) and Engagement, Communication and Communities teams.

COVID 19 delayed the launch of this project but equally gave MITS and GHD more time to plan the experience and get it right! MITS is grateful for the opportunity that GHD provided, from the carefully staged introductions through to having the boys work in the small teams, the mock project approach, site visits and having the input of so many generous people at GHD.

After a week of intensive work each alumnus presented to a room full of adults with such ease, engaging with the audience and detailing their role within the project.  It was such a privilege to be present and we left GHD on such a high!

MITS would like to congratulate GHD on creating such a culturally safe space for alumni to work in, for alumni to feel comfortable and establish and grow connections within their project teams.

Thank you, Samantha, Chloe the entire team at GHD, and John Paul Janke, Gabe, Millie of Rork Projects, and the team at 2Construct (Tom McPherson SKC Old Boy).

Thanks too, to Brighton Grammar School and St Kevin’s College for supporting this opportunity.

The week opened their eyes to the many career pathways, and it's motivated them back at school, and very importantly increased their self-belief and confidence.

Family is everything!

Being far from family and Country is made much easier when a family member moves to Melbourne. Leah Baird had the pleasure of presenting to her aunt Janet Baird her AFLW guernsey. Aunty Janet is a member of the inaugural Hawthorn AFLW team – go Janet!
