Hoanna and Zaya handing over to Lexi and Dwayne
Ngata (hello) my name is Lexi and I’m a proud Gunditjmara woman. Ngatanwarr (welcome) to the captain's corner!
Dwayne and I are the Term 3 school captains. So far this term, I have been able to enjoy many experiences and I have become closer with my classmates & friends here at school and in the boarding house.
When I found out I was going to be the captain, I felt so proud of myself. I had worked really hard to be able to achieve this and now I can continue to try new things and get out of my comfort zone. I really enjoy running the morning circles with Dwayne and welcoming and thanking our guests and visitors.
I’m looking forward to meeting new people and doing more exciting things as school captain. Even though it can be hard and nerve racking getting up in front of the class and delivering speeches and other things, it gets easier every time.
I hope that next term's captains will have learnt something from Dwayne & I and they will hopefully get up there and not feel shame to speak up. I’d like to thank my family and friends for always being there for me and supporting me no matter what.

Hi my name is Dwayne Whitehurst and I'm from Jabiru and my mob is the Mirra mob up in the Northern Territory. Being captain is great, you need to show lots of confidence to be a leader and always demonstrate respect.
I like being captain because I want to step out of my comfort zone and not to be shame. As I read my speech to the class I was shy, I felt like people were going to laugh at me. I read it out proudly and finished my speech and the next day people were saying to me that I was captain with Lexi. Lexi and I run the morning circle and read out the Acknowledgement of Country.
Ever since I was captain I have reached my goal by getting out of my comfort zone. I show lots of confidence and respect. I'd like to thank my mum and dad and my culture for sending me to MITS and always looking out for me. Thank you for reading my Captain's Corner!
