Year 11 and 12 Block Exam Schedule

Term 3

Year 12 Trial Exams

In the second week of the September holidays (26 - 30 September) Trial Exams will be run for all Year 12 subjects. The Trial Exam Block will have 3 sessions each day starting at 9:00 am, 12 noon and 2:00 pm respectively. A timetable will be published closer to the date.

STEM Fair

Last week our Science Week celebrations for 2022 culminated on Friday with the annual Clayfield College STEM Fair.  Students in Years 4 to 7 from Clayfield College, along with invited students from Kedron State Primary school, experienced a range of hands-on activities delivered by our wonderful STEM staff, and outside providers.  As part of the celebrations, students were also treated to a pizza lunch.

Activities included Ocean Life Education, who brought to the College a wonderful collection of fascinating marine organisms that the students were able to observe and touch in our Science labs.  World of Maths showed our students the everyday applications of maths and presented maths in fun and exciting formats.  Students also made kaleidoscopes, stained-glass biscuits and created works of art using cyanotype.  Finally, all students were able to contribute to the refreshing of the Vertical Wall Garden, where over 400 plants were potted into individual recycled soft drink containers.  The garden sits above the Japanese Courtyard and adds a calming and welcoming façade to this space.

The STEM department would like to wholeheartedly thank the P&F for supporting all our Science Week activities this year, including the STEM Mentor Breakfast and the STEM Fair.  With their generous support, we were able to provide such wonderful Science Week events for students at the College.

Student Achievement

Claire Guthrie- Quinn

Congratulations to Claire Guthrie-Quinn on attaining her Certificate III in Dental Assisting. Claire has managed to achieve this certificate while completing studies at Clayfield College. Despite the challenges of undertaking a traineeship during COVID-19, Claire has been asked to apply for a position with the Met North clinic at the end of Year 12, which is a credit to her hard work and dedication.

She has also been invited to interview at a private dental clinic. Claire plans to study Dentistry at university.

Staff Achievement

Ms. Clair Monnickendam

Clair Monnickendam, teacher of Ancient and Modern History, was invited to present a series of Ancient and Modern History workshops as part of the History Educators Regional Network. Clair travelled to Bundaberg and, along with Alison Bedford, University of Southern Queensland, and Emma Kahn, The Glennie School, presented workshops on preparing for the external exams in Modern and Ancient History and developing content knowledge on the topics of Augustus and Perikles (Ancient History). The conference was held at St Luke’s Anglican School, Bundaberg and included students from Isis District State High School, St Luke’s Anglican School and Bundaberg State High School.

Titration National Finals

On Saturday 20 August, our senior titration team of Abigail Carr, Kate Jardine and Cici Liu competed in the National Finals of the RACI Titration Competition at the University of Queensland. The girls had the opportunity to visit a university laboratory and mingle with students from other schools. All three of our students were presented gold badges for their individual performances on the day.

All Girls’ Maths Tournament

On Monday 22 August, select students from Years 6 and 7 participated in the All Girls’ Maths tournament hosted by All Hallows’ School. There were 33 teams that participated in the tournament. The tournament comprised of two parts. The first event was a team challenge where each team had 45 minutes to answers 12 problem solving questions. The second event was a team relay, which was a balance of managing time and working in pairs within the team. Students had to answer 20 questions in this section. All three teams enjoyed the day and found the combination of challenge and teamwork fun to be a part of.
