We’ve had some big highlights this past fortnight. The fruit cups have continued to defy all temperature odds and book week created a buzz throughout the school.
Phase 5 Smart Spelling is well and truly underway! In week 7 the weekly word was car focussing on the digraph ‘ar’ and the common words: you, must, down. In week 8 the weekly word was King focussing on the digraph ‘ng’ and the common words: his, all, of, going.
In writing, we have spent the past two weeks with our author’s hats on writing fabulous fairytales. The students have worked incredibly hard to draft and present their ideas following the structure of a fairytale. Keep an eye out for them in your child’s learning portfolio. We are sure it will be a highlight!
In reading, we have been reading a range of different books using text clues and our background knowledge to infer what the author is saying.
In Maths, students have been practising the skill of asking a question to collect data and representing it in a simple graph. A highlight was creating our own tasty treats and collecting data to see who would want to eat it.

Our Literacy sessions have been extremely busy and full of excitement as we created information posters about different countries around the world. We researched through reading non-fiction books and using web pages to develop our knowledge about different cultures and traditions. Edges, faces and vertices are all features of 2 and/or 3 dimensional shapes. We explored these shapes in detail, we challenged ourselves to not only to find edges, faces and vertices but to create 3 dimensional shapes using nets and to draw our own. We have been keeping our Maths brains in shape with all this hard work.
Everyone did a fantastic effort in the TriSkills gymnastics, what a blast we had learning some new skills. What a great way to keep our bodies moving.

It has been another huge couple of weeks in the Level 5/6 area. In reading, we have been focusing on searching for and using the information to help us understand the text and use the information in our own writing. We have continued to keep all the skills of reading bubbling along, especially inferring meaning when not directly stated.
In Writing we have spent some time researching a favourite topic, these have included; favourite places, people, food, events and animals. From our research, we have been learning about writing information reports. These reports are looking at how we can use the information we have researched and present it in our own words.
In mathematics, students have begun learning about BODMAS (Order of operations) and their synonyms (PIDMAS, PEMDAS BIDMAS). We are learning about using their acronyms to solve increasingly more difficult equations that have more than one operation in them.

This has been a very challenging week at RHPS, our thoughts go out to the family and those affected by the tragedy earlier on in the week. The students have demonstrated maturity and resiliency under these difficult circumstances.
